    Good Ulva Island ferry service
We took the morning ferry to Ulva Island, and it was quite pleasant on the outgoing trip, but very windy on the return (we took the last ferry back). There were blankets provided for the passengers use in case someone felt cold. We had also booked a Pelagic Tour, but due to the weather conditions, it was cancelled - the skipper (Rakiura) kept us fully informed until the last minute, and we appreciate his attention. Highly recommend using the Ulva Island Ferry & Water Taxi

RECOMMENDED TRANSPORT TO ULVA IF YOU ARE DOING A SELF-GUIDED WALK
We booked a water taxi by phone the day before to do our own walk around Ulva Island. The booking was done promptly to meet our time requirements with easy payment over the phone. The next day our "taxi driver" was friendly, flexible and efficient.

Another great cruise on the MV Wairangi
Over 20 years ago with Lew at the helm, we motored out of Tutukaka, Northland on the MV Wairangi to go snorkelling around the poor nights, a great day out. This month, at the other end of the country, with Rakiura at the helm, we motored out of Paterson inlet, Stewart Island on the MV Wairangi to go bird watching towards Bench Island, then back around the inlet. Rakiura shared the recent history of the Wairangi and put us in great spots to see & photograph the birds. It was a most enjoyable couple of hours thanks to Rakiura & crew. Thank you, Rakiura Adventures, for keeping this historic ship in use & in such good condition.

The water taxi operated efficiently. Ulva Island was a great place to see birds and enjoy New Zealand native vegetation.

A lovely short crossing from Ulva Ferry to the Island of Ulva.... Highly recommend. Excellent boatman one summons by unveiling a red square!

As a group of 4 we enjoyed a guided boat trip around the Patterson Inlet and it's wildlife, before being taken to Ulva Island. It was so fantastic and was meant to be for an hour, and there we were 2 hours later being dropped at the Island. Exceeded expectations thank you very much and we enjoyed the up close and playful encounters!!

An awesome trip! The skipper Rakiura really looked after us and his boat handling skills were impressive. The Norweigan Whaling base was a memorable experience and definitely worth a visit!

Great place. We booked the ferry via the red shed but this was much more expensive than going by a water taxi. It did include a guided tour though which was good. Seen some birds that we can’t see back home. Stewart island is ace and worth a visit. Our motel was ace with great. Views and the pub is fantastic with ace pub grub

We found this service friendly, professional and efficient.
Would highly recommend. It leaves from Golden bay wharf just over the hill from Oban regularly throughout the day and costs $20 return to Ulva island.

We had the best experience of the worst weather!! The swell in the inlet was rough and Rakiura provided a masterclass in skilled boat driving (if that’s what you call it). I was grateful to have arrived safely and appreciated the ease and skill that made it look easy.
If you were at all anxious on the water, be assured you and in the best hands.
