The short drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy is amazing. There are many places to pull over to be blown away by the scenery and take unforgettable pictures. We experienced this rode via the Pure Glenorchy Scenic Lord of the Rings tour

The views are amazing from the entire length. The only drawback is the huge amount of tourists who are unable to content with the winding NZ road and travel so slow.

We traveled this road following the Routeburn hike, and it was a wonderful ending to our wonderful hike. We traveled again on the way to Milford Sound. photos can't capture it!

The mountains are close enough that a little rain doesn't wash out the detail. In February we were lucky to get a cold night that brought in some snow for nice highlights.

Great views, lots of opportunities to stop into a bay or look out spot for photos. Lots of lakes u can visit along the way too. Safest to keep headlights on even during daytime as some parts of the road are quite steep or curved...More

Judging by the street names here, the majority of settlers were Scottish. Like many places in New Zealand, it is geared up for outdoor activities and it’s nice to walk around on a warm day.

You're gonna get some great views on this drive. Even if the weather is overcast and foggy, the lake and the mountains still look so cool. There are some scary blind corners and turns, so just be wary of inexperienced tourist drivers and camper vans!

We drove to Glenorchy in mid-morning under a partly cloudy sky with sunlight showering down on Lake Wakatipu. The drive was breathtakingly beautiful; the destination did not hold much interest for us. We made it more interesting by venturing into the rural areas beyond Glenorchy...More

The road is generally safe, though there is a small portion by some cliffs with some blind corners and where it is quite narrow. Drive sensibly and you will be fine.

I think bicycle would be a bit much... road is windy and hilly and could be dangerous for a bike.
