“Fun but Overpriced and Lacking Cohesion”
Escape Quest offered an enjoyable experience with a friendly and welcoming host who set the tone for the adventure. The puzzles were certainly challenging, providing a good mental workout.
However, we felt that some puzzles didn’t align well with the room’s theme, making the experience feel disjointed. It seemed like a few puzzles were included simply because they were available, rather than because they enhanced the storyline or atmosphere of the escape.
Having done escape rooms across New Zealand, we also found this one to be significantly more expensive compared to others, yet lacking the cohesive design we’ve come to expect. While it was still a fun activity, the pricing and thematic inconsistencies detract from the overall value.
That said, we would still recommend Escape Quest to others—it’s a good experience, just not at the top of our list.

We had an amazing time in the Prince of Wales room! The puzzles were challenging and creative, keeping us fully engaged the entire time. The attention to detail in the room’s design really added to the experience. A huge thank you to Merel for being such a fantastic host—your enthusiasm and guidance made the experience even more enjoyable. We can’t wait to come back for another adventure!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We did the Jackpot escape room, which was great fun. Would highly recommend if the weather takes a turn for the worst. Great activity and with a "little" help we managed to escape.

We are a family group of 3 (mum, dad and 10 year old son) who did the "Gold Heist" escape room. We mostly did it because our son was desperate to do something like this - to be honest, my husband and I were a bit lukewarm about it, as we mostly wanted to do outdoorsy stuff in Queenstown... however, we are SO glad we went with our son's idea to do this! It was so much fun and it was great to have our brains challenged!
The clues were well pitched in terms of difficulty and there was help on hand if needed. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
I don't want to say too much about the actual escape room, as I don't want to spoil any surprises! But I will say, it was so clever because when we entered the room it was like "oh, there's nothing really in here!" but, as the game progressed, without giving too much away, there was a lot more to see in there by the time we left!
Thank you so much for a super memorable last morning in Queenstown. HIGHLY recommended!

Very mixed feelings we did the virtual escape room set in Egypt. We got kitted up with the VR head sets but then left to it, my wife’s head set hadn’t been set up correctly so she called out for help but no one came. Then we did a tutorial but were stuck waiting at the end of it for 5 min as no one was there to start the game I had to take my head set off to get someone to start it. There was also lots of chatting and laughing by the owners/other people walking around so we couldn’t hear each other through the head sets some of the time. When we got to the end of the game no one was there so had to yell out again to see if that was the end of the game as we had just ran out things to do. Over all it was a great game but poorly run, still have no idea what time we managed to escape etc. Would recommend VR escape room but will try somewhere else.

Boy were we glad when we found an escape room in Queenstown when our outdoor adventures were cancelled due to rain. Just the two of us, we entered Jackpot in the Miners Cottage. Great props, very authentic and good amount of mechanics, challenging even though we are not novices, we had to ask for a couple clues (the down side of having only two brains in the room, escape rooms are better with four or so people) and so unexpected. Just made it out with minutes to spare. Nice touch having the themed dress ups available for group photos. Dearer than most escape rooms but a lot of fun! Can't wait to try the other rooms on our next visit to Queenstown.

This was the first escape room for five of us and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were fantastic. Managed to complete it just in time (thanks to the clues) but so much fun to use the brain without a device for a change.Highly recommend this for travellers and locals if you haven't tried it.

The escape room is a really fun way to spend an hour or so. Its challenging without being impossible and great you can get clues if you're stuck. It was well laid out and professionally run. Full of surprises. We competed against another team so it was awesome being able to do the same room as them at the same time. Thoroughly recommend.

Loved it. We just finished the room with two minutes to spare but that was allowing full cooperation of three children. Totally immersive experience, challenges were exciting, storyline interesting and kept our attention the entire time. Well set up mechanics and all worked well!

Hi, Thanks for the question.
For that many people two rooms would be required. Our rooms are designed for 5 but can fit max 6. We have 2 rooms with the same game so suggest playing Gold Heist in the Gold Rush.

Hi Eunice, Our games are designed for teams 2-5 people. The team hunts for clues and solve puzzles and is trying to escape the room within 60mins. Hope this helps.
