We took an afternoon flight on Air Milford back to Queenstown after touring Milford Sound. Our flight with Air Milford was nothing short of extraordinary with scenic bird’s eye views of the mountaintops, rivers and lakes. Our pilot (Antony) was fabulous. He calmed anyone who had not flown in a Cessna Caravan turbo prop plane by explaining the plane’s capabilities. He flew a route designed to maximize the sights, while also ensuring minimum to no turbulence. He was safety oriented beginning to end, but when time permitted, explained the views as we took the short 30 to 45 minute flight back to Queenstown. I highly recommend Air Milford and Antony...it is a flight we will not soon forget and avoided a long 4+ hour drive back to town.

We took a private bus mid-January 2020 and were treated to spectacular weather and a beautiful journey from Queenstown to Milford. It was one of those rare days of no-rain and sunny skies in Milford. This was my 4th trip to Queenstown and Milford and this was the best ever. For our return flight our travel agent booked us on Air Milford. It was an epic return flight. Our pilot, Antony, was a superb professional who highlighted our journey in the 5 passenger Cessna 185 with excellent commentary along the way. He traversed beautiful glaciers and valleys to allow us to see some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. We highly recommend Milford Air. Cheers to the Milford Air Family !

We like to think of our Cessna 185 as the 'sports car' of the fleet, it is a small bush plane, able to land on small remote runways and even beaches! It is Hank, Air Milford's CEO and your pilot Antony's father's family pane and they absolutely love taking it flying.
We are pleased to hear that your pilot Antony's enthusiasm for flying in the mountains shone through during your scenic flight from Milford Sound to Queenstown, we 100% agree with you the scenery is spectacular.

We took the bus tour from Queenstown to Milford Sound where our tour guide informed us about options to fly back. While the scenery by road was delightful we decided to experience the view from above and also save some time.
Our family of four had a Cessna for ourselves. Our pilot Anthony was very skillful giving us a smooth ride even with all the clouds. He also gave a good commentary on the main features visible from above. Seeing the Milford sound, Mt. Christina and other glaciers from the top was certainly one of the highlights of our New Zealand visit.

It is my absolute pleasure to personally respond to your review, as pilot in command of your recent scenic flight from Milford Sound - Queenstown. This is one of the ultimate rewards of the job, and it makes me feel really grateful to have a small hand in shaping the outcome of travellers impression of New Zealand. Even though the 4 seater Cessna is our original (family) aircraft of the fleet, there is nothing more personal than assigning it to a family as in your case. I love sharing the experience, and I love hearing that the feeling was mutual.

For two well travelled retirees this was a world class experience.
Excellent aircraft (Cessna Caravan) flight offering superb views from Queenstown, over snow mountains, with interesting commentary provided by Carl ‘Tommo’ Thompson. Seamless transfer to boat cruise on Milford Sound. Prepaid lunch was ordinary but adequate, served by friendly staff.
Southern flight path back to Queenstown gave tremendous views of summer me of the great walks.

We are so fortunate to have the world class Fiordland National Park just on our doorstep and we love sharing the region with our guests. The experience of getting on a 5- seater plane was really awesome. We paid only for a 25-minute flight on top of Queenstown, but we ended up flying over 45 minutes with a free trip to Walter's Peak Farms. I really love that it was even the CEO himself, Hank who flew us around. He was friendly and very approachable. Thanks so much for the great experience!

We went on the 1st July 2020. This was a special trip for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. The Team at Air Milford were fantastic and we couldn’t of been better looked after. The views were beautiful and stunning. Thomas the pilot was very knowledgeable, the cruise team should also be mentioned for their knowledgeable commentary and their professionalism. It was a great time to see Milford without all the crowds. Thank you Team Air Milford for a perfect day right from the booking to final drop off at our hotel. New Zealand residents you need to get down there now there is no better time than the present. We will be recommending this to all our friends.

We wholeheartedly agree with you, the views experienced during our Milford Sound Fly/Nature Cruise/Fly trip are out of this world, aboard the two 40 minuet scenic flights you get to view locations which are entirely unaccessible by road and then, aboard the cruise, you get to be up close and personal to the towering cliffs and thundering waterfalls - maybe even get a glacial facial!

Sept 2021 I missed a flight from Queenstown to Christchurch that would connect me onto Auckland and an international flight to Canada for a family funeral. This route was my last opportunity to make it overseas in time as flights NZtoCanada were only operating on a limited basis at that time during Covid travel restrictions.
We arrived at Air Milford in a right frenzy and asked if there was any chance they could help me make it to Christchurch for that crucial connection which I had only just over an hour to meet. Ants sprung into action immediately prepping his aircraft while the team in the office worked quickly to organize permissions and even secured priority access from the landing point to the Air NZ aircraft I was meeting. They didn't ask questions, they just made it happen safely, securely and quickly.
Regardless of the circumstances, the flight was enjoyable overlooking the dams and mountain views along the way. In the air on the way to Christchurch I explained to Ants my reason for the short notice charter. He is a very kind and very talented pilot, gave insights onto the points of interest along the way.
The entire team acted in a very prompt, professional and organized manner. I can thoroughly recommend this family business for your charter or tour experience needs.

Back in October, our family flew with AirMilford on the return from Milford Sound, as part of a day tour to that location, in Fiordland National Park.
Our pilot was Antony Sproull, a member of the family that owns and operates AirMilford.
Being an airline captain, myself, I could not but notice Antony’s extreme professionalism and competence, two essential traits for any pilot to which he also added the traditional good spirit and welcoming stance we systematically observed throughout our 1-month stay in New Zealand.
Our oldest, took the right front seat and Antony made a point of adding detailed commentaries about the technical aspects of the flight for my son’s benefit, while also managing to do the traditional intercom narration covering ground features and relevant stories about the places we flew over.
Arriving in Queenstown, I was again very impressed how AirMilford facilities were top notch and very well kept, while all the planes in the fleet that were present seemed in immaculate condition.
All in all, this was a very impressive and enjoyable experience, and I can only but wholeheartedly recommend AirMilford for your air travel needs in the region.

Although your visit was in October last year the clear recount of the adventure hopefully means that it left memories that will last a life time!

My partner and I did a 20 min scenic flight over Queenstown and the montain range but also Arrowtown. The scenery was incredible.
The staff was really welcoming and friendly. The pilot Hank was super friendly and I really like the little talk before the flight explaining and showing where we were going to fly. He was really calm and experienced pilot which makes you super comfortable is you are not use to flight in small plane.
I really enjoyed the experience. Thank you.

This afternoon we had the opportunity to fly up the Shotover River, over Lochnagar, then landed at the Branches Station for afternoon tea. Our pilot, Ant, was knowledgeable on the area pointing out places of interest. An amazing afternoon. We highly recommend flying with Air Milford.

Hi! Do you guys provide this same trip air milford- half day flight and cruise with a Glacier landing in Fiordland National Park? I am torn between your half day and the Half-Day Milford Helicopter Flight and Cruise from Queenstown

Due to being in a fixed wing aircraft we are unable to land on any glaciers as landing strips are not available, however you would certainly see these when flying to and from Milford Sound.

We recommend that guests book in for their first available day in Queenstown, so that, should the weather be unfavourable for flying on the first day, they would have the flexibility to roll on to a following fine weather day.

Thank you for your enquiry with Air Milford.
We use taxis to collect our guests from their centrally located Queenstown accommodation. In New Zealand, infants are required to have their own seat in a car, however taxis have a special dispensation, as they are considered public transport and so are not required to carry/use car seats.
So, if you would like a car seat for your infant in the taxi, rather than have them sit on your lap, you will either need to provide one. Or, when you book direct with us on our website, in the comments section make it clear that you need a car seat for a 2year olds, so that we can pre-book this for you, please note there will be an extra charge of NZ$20.

Hi! Can you please tell me the difference between the fly, cruise, fly option and the fly, nature cruise, fly option? Also it seems there is an option to take a bus one way, then cruise then fly but i am not seeing it on the website. Also I am seeing a noon option described but again not seeing that on the website. Lastly, which of these besides the 8am option includes food? I am coming to Queenstown with my son in 2 weeks (end of October, beginning of November and would love to take this trip ! Thank you

Thank you for your questions.
The Scenic cruises the fiord for 1hr 45mins (on our 08.00am departure) and 1hr 30mins (on our 10.00am departure) and the Nature cruises for 2hrs (on our 12.00noon departure) and 1hr 45mins (on our 02.00pm departure), although both cruises take the same route thought the Fiord and stop at the same locations.
The main difference between the two boats is the size of the vessel. The Scenic Cruise has a capacity of 300 guests, whereas the Nature Cruise has a capacity of 150 guests.
The other difference to note is the Nature orientated emphasis of the Nature Cruise. Onboard there are two wilderness guides, who give a full commentary about the fiord’s wildlife, history, fauna and flora. In contrast, the commentary aboard the Scenic Cruise is done by the skipper, with guides aboard the vessel to answer questions.
If you go to the Half-Day Milford Sound Nature Cruise and Flight from Queenstown excursion page, there are two times to select from for our summer departures, 1200 noon and 0200 pm.
The excursion including the coach is called Milford Sound Day Trip from Queenstown by Coach, Cruise and Flight. I am sorry that you are having trouble finding them but if you search those exact titles, they should come up
Regarding food, the 0800 am includes a complimentary buffet breakfast, the 1200 noon includes a buffet lunch and the 0200 pm includes a complimentary beverage. The 1000 am does not include any food or beverages.

I would like to book the fly/cruise/fly option to Milford Sound but am nervous about weather cancellations as we will only be in Queenstown 2 days. If we book the fly/cruise/fly what are the chances of getting on a coach/cruise tour the next day is the weather is not good?

Because of the weather dependent nature of flying over the Southern Alps and into Fiordland, we defiantly recommend, as you have suggested, to book in for your first available day. So that you have a back up day, should the weather be inclement on the first day.
May I ask how many people are in your party and also what time of year you are looking to travel? Because at most times of the year, there will be no problem finding seats on a coach the day before departure, however at peak times, this is not the case.

For the 12.00noon Milford Sound Fly/Cruise/Fly excursion, on the morning of your departure you will be required to call us at 10.30am for a final weather check.
All being well with the weather, pick up from your centrally located Queenstown accommodation is at 11.00am, or if you wish to drive yourself to our base, check in time as at 11.15am.

Yes for the Fly/Cruise/Fly options infants under 3yrs fly free of charge, when sat on a parent's lap, with an infant lap belt.
For the Awesome Coach/Cruise/Fly option infants also travel free of charge.
For the BBQ Bus/Cruise/Fly option, the price for an infant is NZ$105.

Yes, on the Milford Sound Coach/Cruise/Fly excursion, the coach trip takes in multiple (usually 4) scenic stops and short walks en-route to Milford Sound. The most notable are the Mirror Lakes and The Chasm, which are both short scenic walks.
