My kids (3 and 10) loved this - they repeated the maze four times in our hour-long entry slot. I hated it, however! It was dark and dingy and had a bit of a grotty/ghetto vibe in places. One room had the sort of UV graffiti you might see at a warehouse rave.

The lighting was deliberately dark in many parts of the maze, for obvious reasons, but there could have been far more atmosphere with dim coloured lighting in more of the rooms, rather than simply black dinginess. Some places, like the mirror room, were bright and cheerful, which made it more fun.

The woman who served us seemed bored and uninterested when we arrived.

I was worried my three year old would find the whole experience creepy, but after we made it through the first time she couldn't wait to go back. I, however, wasn't so keen!

It got busy towards the end of our visit and we had to keep hold of her at all times because there were some very energetic kids who could have stepped on her - the safety instructions need to have more details on respecting other's space and looking out for those around you.

Thank you for sharing your detailed experience! It sounds like the maze was a hit with your kids, which is wonderful to hear. It’s always great when an activity keeps little ones entertained and eager to return. We're sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience as much. Your feedback in regards to our graffiti and lightning enhancements is appreciated. We're sorry to hereabout our staff. Usually we pride ourselves with our friendly and bubbly staff, we are sorry to hear we fell short on this mark. Thanks for your honest feedback and visit.

This was a fun experience. Rooms you crawl and creep through with different sensory appeal. Through every door there were surprises and lots of giggles. I don't recommend doing it if you can't crawl or climb through smaller spaces or if you're afraid of the dark or confined spaces. This was definitely a unique experience. The only reason I haven't given it a higher rating is because I felt it was a bit overpriced. The whole experience was over in about 10 minutes so I didn't rate it as good value for money. We also had people coming up behind us who kept opening the door into the room we were in so we felt pressured to rush through it. Luckily we had tickets that allowed us to go through again within the hour so the kids loved being able to go through it again (and I would recommend buying these tickets if you want to make the experience last).

Hey Tinkie12, Thanks for your review. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your journey and made the most of your hour of unlimited re-entry ticket. In regards to our pricing, we must admit that our pricing is in line with similar activities within the area (and you'll be hard pushed to find activities in Queenstown for under $30). Plus, we're great value for money given there is no time on completing the maze as we actively encourage you to take your time in each room. Also we do offer discounted rates to ensure everybody can enjoy a journey through our sensory maze. In regard to the duration, we do encourage each and every group to take their time inside Odyssey and that there is no time limit to enjoy Odyssey. Typically, groups take around 20 - 30 minutes to complete one journey In addition, your ticket included one-hour unlimited re-entry. This ticket offers customers more bang for their buck as you can re-enter as many times as you like within a one hour period and this ticket also includes a free pair of crazy goggles. We are glad you utilised your time and went back in again. There are some dark and confined spaces, which are mentioned in our disclaimer form on the Ipad, on which customers sign in on arrival. Also these aspects are covered in our entry speech, when informing customers about Odyssey. During our safety briefing we do explain to every group that Odysseans shouldn't feel rushed through their experience and should take their time to explore each and every environment. Plus if groups bump into other groups inside the maze we do inform every group to share the space keeping 2meters apart from each other. Thanks for visiting and for your feedback.

This is a sensory maze so the caution is in the name if you are sensitive to the dark or small spaces.
We went as a family and some friends. 4 adults and 4 children (2, 4, 6 & 7yrs).
My husband gets claustrophobic and didn't make it past the first room after about 1 minute. He left and was kindly given a refund and waited for us in the reception.
I thought my son (4yrs) would be scared of the dark rooms but surprisingly had a great time. So essentially if you know your childs limits and you're there with them supporting them then its a bit of a laugh.
Yes its a bit expensy for what took us about half an hour but its at your own pace (we were the only ones there so were in no rush) and was something to do for a bit of entertainment

This is our second time here, thought we would give them a second chance. Sadly, this would be our last time here. Spent $143 for 10min.
Lady at the counter has an accent and looks to be in a boring job, hence not very exciting in talking to my wife.
No toilet offered onsite, and were told to go accross the road using the public toilet near lake....

Will never come back again!

Kia Ora JLO0114, Thanks for taking the time to review Odyssey Sensory Maze. We’re sorry to hear you had mixed feelings about your experience. We're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience through Odyssey Sensory Maze. We have thousands of visitors every year who absolutely love their experience so we're sorry to hear you didn't fall into this camp. We’re sorry to hear you rushed through the experience. We do advise every group to take their time to explore each sensory space. We encourage every group to take their time inside Odyssey and there's no time limit to enjoy Odyssey. Typically, groups take around 20 - 30 minutes to complete one journey so despite our suggestions to take your time to explore perhaps the group rushed through the experience? Remember, you can also grab our one-hour unlimited re-entry option that offers customers more bang for their buck as you can re-enter as many times as you like within an hour and this ticket also includes a free pair of crazy goggles. Apologies we don't offer a toilet onsite, we prefer to offer the entire venue for our customer's to explore our attractions in-store instead. Thanks for visiting and for your feedback.

If you are planning to go with your children to Odyssey Sensory Maze at Queenstown, please think twice! It is absoluteley inappropriate for children at least less than 10 or 12 years old, if and only if... We were two adults and two kids (3 & 8) and we got in panic inside the maze and at the end we had to ask for help . In addition in our opinion, the experience does not brings anything good or valuable, but anxiety, distress and a very unpleasant money. We pay more than one hundred NZ dollars for a bad moment! Never ever!!

We did this as a filler - the advertising said it was about 30 minutes and we had a bit of time to kill so off we went. My husband and I were expecting we would just be tagging along behind our 13 year old. We all thoroughly enjoyed it! There is a bit of climbing through stuff to do (don’t want to give away too much!), but very manageable if you take your time. We did and took about 40 minutes. The having to use feet and hands was great, and a number of different things to try out. Our fave was the mirror maze. We’d definitely go again and wish we’d had more time to go through a second time! The manager was very friendly - always great when you get a smile and a laugh. Absolutely worth a visit.

I had done this years ago on the Gold Coast Australia. Perhaps I expected more as that one was better. Maybe I’m too old for it. Wasn’t as exciting as I hoped however I’m sure younger ones will love it.

My son and I did this as a combo with Smashit. Had a great time getting all the stress out first in Smashit and then going through the mazes after. Felt like big kids in the sensory maze and loved it.

This is suited to older kids and is probably a great experience for them. I went through with 3 kids ranging from 20 months to 8 years and they struggled. No one mentioned it when I was booking in and it was advertised as suitable for all ages. It was very dark throughout all rooms. Trying to get 3 screaming kids through the pitch black room where you have to navigate obsticules was toture. The photos on the website don't make it look so dark. They were excited about the mirror maze but even in there the light turn completely off every 10 seconds or so for a few seconds. Which feels like forever with scared kids. It just turned into a race to get out as quick as we could.
I know it would take away some of the senses but it would be a lot more enjoyable for younger kids if they offered a time slot with the lights on. They enjoyed the foam pit.

Hi Alyssa, Thanks for your review of Odyssey. We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. Could you kindly let us know on which plattform you have booked the tickets as we would like to follow up as usually we make it clear on our website as well as 3rd party platforms that we recommend Odyssey for children above 8 years as they can find the dark areas a bit daunting. We also mention the dark areas on our waiver form each customer must sign in before entering the maze. On top of that, we have posters positioned throughout the reception area mentioning the dark areas. Thanks for your feedback and visit.
