Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We did the full day tour, and really enjoyed it. The bikes were in very good condition, with a spare tube and pump, and helmet provided. The guides who drove us to the drop off point were friendly and amusing, and gave us a good orientation to safety and to the route. We took their advice and had coffee and breakfast in Arrowtown before setting out. The ride was very enjoyable through all kinds of terrain. Advice: take your own lunch and lots of water. There is no shade. The pub at the end does offer a reduced rate for pizza and beer to tour members BUT we didn't know this until after we had paid for and eaten 2 beer and one mediocre pizza (total $50). Painful. And truly this trip could be done in half a day...we sat at the end for about 2.5 hours before getting picked up. We didn't go to many wineries, but the tour company does pick up any wines that you do buy, and delivered them to the shop for us to take home with us. This is a very useful service.

We hired e-bikes for four hours and rode around the lake from Queenstown to Kelvin Heights. Stopped off at the Hilton for a drink and bite to eat. The service we received was excellent - from booking, to a quick fix from Hamish for a flat tyre, all made for a great experience. Thanks!

Very glad to hear that we were able to provide you with a great day out guys! Always a pain to get a flat, but glad I was able to get to you quickly and swap the bike out. Thank you kindly for taking the time to review us. Kind regards Hamish

Super nice staff, great bikes, beautiful scenery, what else do you need? Perfect day out. It certainly helped the sun was shining but I dare say it's spectacular even in a drizzle. Amazing bridges on the way!!!!

Thanks Astrid - the suspension bridges are a great highlight along the trail!

We hired bikes to cycle on our own. No explanation at all - not about the bikes, not about the routes. Routes are from gravel and some are quite advanced, so a little explanation would have been helpful. Staff really didn’t care and were very uninterested. Bikes are decent.

Hi Julia, I am sorry to hear you had this experience as all our riders who come to our shop for bike hires fill out a hire form, are given helmets and bikes specific to their height - along with instruction on how to operate them (gears/brakes), plus we explain how to get to the start of the trail and hand out a detailed map of the trails. I don't know how you managed to slip through the system without this attention, but do apologise for this. For anyone reading this review - if you hire a bike at a time when our shop is busy, it is best to catch one of our team and advise you require further information before you set off riding and they will be happy to answer your questions. There are also videos playing 24/7 a large trail map and images in our shop that show the trail terrain which can be helpful.

We hired two bikes for four hours and that was enough for us to complete the Arrow River & Gibbston Trails (orange and red trails) one way in 3 hours. We then had the shuttle collect us and our bikes to return to Arrowtown. Wonderful credit to Queenstown for these well designed trails. We found the trails easy on a regular bike with a few small hill climbs on these particular trails (there are definitely harder and more difficult trails). Scenery stunning. Around the Basin Bike tours bikes were individually named (cute) and well maintained. Helmets included. Assistance and suggestions from staff was excellent. Would definitely use them again and recommend.

Hired e bikes as a family of four to do the Arrowtown to Arthurs Point ride. Driven to Arrowtown where we were given our bikes and clear directions. Had plenty of time to explore Arrowtown before setting off.

E bikes meant we all stayed together regardless of riding ability. It also meant we got to our pick up way in advance so decided to extend our cycle back into Queenstown.

Great day out on the trails!

Friendly from the get go, picked up on time on way out and returning. Very informative and took time to explain safety, bike check, map directions to ensure we couldn’t get lost and good recommendations.

I would consider myself pretty fit but wished I’d done at least a little bit of riding to prepare as some of the track was hilly/challenging in parts ,but heaps of downhill to make up for it.

Was lucky to see some awesome looking birds and rabbits a long the way. The bridges were pretty cool too. Very scenic through out and fun dropping at Bungy to watch.

Overall a great day out.

A full day of cycling leaving from Queenstown and heading to Arrowtown and Gibbston. The cycling was challenging but well worth it. The views amazing and scenery spectacular - best way to see a place is on bikes. Such a fantastic tour. Our guide met us occasionally to steer us in the right direction or move our bikes to a new location. All in all a wonderful day.

Last minute change of plans meant that we wanted to rent some bikes on the day. Around the Basin was very accommodating, sorted us out with bikes very quickly and shuttled us across to Arrowtown to bike to Gibbston. As it was quite a quiet day, we had a bit more flexibility on pickup time which we appreciated, as it gave us time to visit the brewery and a couple of wineries. It was great having the wine collected for us so we didn't have to carry on the bikes.
The bikes were clean, tidy and well maintained. Great trip.

What a relaxing way to enjoy the picturesque Gibbston Valley and its wonderful wineries and breweries.

It’s an easy riverside ride from Arrowtown to Gibbston Valley through stunning scenery and across swing bridges.

We enjoyed the beer tasting at Cargo Brewery and the wood fired pizzas at the Gibbston Tavern before our friendly hosts shuttled us back to Queenstown.

Leave the car at home and hop on a bike for your next Gibbston Valley adventure.
