Beautiful little township and a must visit on your trip. A number of walks to do nearby for either the easy or hardened walker. Some beautiful eateries to cater for everyone and generally a lovely place to go, such a nice vibe!

We were driven pass the Arrow River in a group with AATKings. It is a small icy cold river surrounded by native forests.

We always walk along the Arrow River for a bit when we visit Arrowtown. There are a variety of walks to choose from - long and short, whatever you fancy. It is very picturesque, particularly in autumn. There are signboards down by the river behind the Arrowtown village explaining the walk options, or you can more detailed info from the museum in the main street.

We followed the Arrow River from Arrowtown to the Kawarau (Bungy) Bridge on the Arrow River Bridges Cycle Trail. It is a wild river with virtually no development except for the cool suspension bridges enroute. The scenery is gorgeous and the trail is easy. Highly recommended!

Arrowtown is amazing. We grabbed some incredible lamb for dinner, walked into the little shops, and even panned for gold in the river...with our hands.

It was a most unexpected day. We took a offroading 4WD and she drove us across the river . At some places it dd get scary. The agency was good as the first vehicle did not seem to be taking us anywhere and so she called for another vehicle and in 10 minutes we had help and a good vehicle at our disposal. This is a must do activity.
We also did some gold panning. Ofcourse did not find any nuggets ! but did find some gold dust.

When we went to Arrow town, we not only saw Buckingham street and the old post office, and the Chinese gold panning area, we also saw the Arrow River which was in the 1850's and later a place for panning gold, from its waters. This river gave a whole generation of "Panners" a livelihood, which brought them here, from places like Australia and the surrounding areas.

On Buckingham street we actually saw some gold nuggets in the Gold shop, which had been found in the river.

Really felt we were part of the Arrow river history!
