There is a track to walk alongside the river. I enjoyed seeing the beautifully clean water and the quietness after a day in Queenstown. On the track, locals walk their dogs. You can also admire the locals that walk the track wearing little rugby shorts...More

Traveled here with my mum in July, the weather was crisp but still enjoyable. A nice area to walk around enjoying the stunning views. Also the air seems so fresh and clean here.

Visited Monday 7th May. We parked down by the River and after having a look around the Village and Chinese Settlement we made our way back to the carpark along the River side walkway.

To be honest, there wasn't much to do besides walking, panning for gold and wondering how someone got there 4WD bogged in the river (see pics for more details).

This may be better in summer however when we went in July, the walk was underwhelming. There wasn't much scenary and the river bank was full of rubbish.

Took my 4WD vehicle & made my way out to Macetown. Just the most amazing trip & experience. Not to be done unless you are a very experienced 4WD driver.

We traveled through Arrow town on our way to Wanaka . It was extremely cold, with ice and frost all over the place! Nice little town, with some interesting gold mining history. Nice place for a look and a coffee!

This is a peaceful river that flows along the chinese settlement village. It creates a peacful and lovely mood around the area.

The history around the Chinese settlement is fascinating and the trails that can be walked are great. Options for advanced or easy walking and quick access into raw and beautiful river valley scenery.
