great walk
Aug 2020
loved this walk - we enjoyed the climb, the beautiful sound of the water falls and birds as we walked. we added on the extension to moke and dispute lakes. Definitely worth a visit.

Not to be underestimated!

We did this tramp thinking it was going to be a walk in the park! In fact it was a bit trickier than some of the other “easy” tracks we’d come across in and around Queenstown. Well-graded track but lots of hills! We also started at 3pm and were worried we’d lose light given the location in the valley, so for a more relaxing walk I’d make sure to start a bit earlier in winter months! Definitely do the track clockwise (following the sign that says Sam Summer’s Hut 45 minutes). We walked at pace and did it in 1 hour 45 mins.

Nature, history and a cool walk
Jul 2020 • Couples
A great track that takes you though beech forest, sub-alpine meadows and gold mining history.

The track itself is very even and well maintained. Some sections are quite steep but not difficult. You’d want to wear boots or at least a decent pair of sports shoes.

The car park is about 10 minutes drive out fo Queenstown on the Glenorchy road (and it’s on the lake side of the road). There’s a toilet there and top marks to DOC; it’s the cleanest, lowest odour (like none) long drop I’ve ever experienced!

I recommend doing the track clockwise (I.e follow the sign that says Sam Summer hut 45 minutes). If you do it the other way, you’ll have a long relentless uphill slog of at least an hour.

We walked the loop comfortably in two hours. The Sam Summers hut is an interesting reminder of gold digging times past, as is a tunnelled water race off a short side track.

Highly recommended. A good add on to a trip to Glenorchy.

Just amazing

This is a trail hike not to be missed. There is one thing after the other on the trail that you will probably find fascinating like I did. For instance, you will come across an old mining sluice cut into the hill that looks like something out of an Indiana Jones movie. And that's not to mention the big payoff view at about the halfway point. I suggest crossing the bridge and going right to start off. You'll get the steepest part out of the way first and cruise home later.

A nice loop track for nature lovers
Oct 2019
The trach leads along forest, rivers and a waterfall. The trail is relatively easy to walk, we needed three hours to do the loop. Today this walk is quite popular, you don't walk alone but meet regularly other people.

Great hike
Jul 2019 • Couples
This was a great hike, worth the challenge for a slightly unfit person as myself. The tranquility and nature views were great. Make sure you wear suitable walking footwear as can be damp under foot in places. The views at top were good too. It will be a must do every time we come now.

Amazing

This walk is a local secret recommended to us while staying in Queenstown during April 2019. Starting from the carpark near Bob's Cove, you cross over the road and begin the loop. We recommend going clockwise for the best experience.
This is a hilly walk, but not too difficult and we managed the whole track in 3 hours which included plenty of time stopping to take photos, and 30 minutes having a picnic on the bench overlooking lake dispute and across to lake Wakitipu.
