About
Local guides will help you to explore the breath-taking landscapes of Middle Earth, Glenorchy and Paradise during this half day Lord of The Rings inspired tour. Visiting film locations from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, you’ll enjoy hearing behind the scenes stories, from decisions made by the director to amusing anecdotes about the actors. You’ll stand before such sites as Isengard, Ithilien, Amon Hen and Lothlorien forest; where you can play at being a star with our capes and swords, making for fun photos. As you travel along New Zealand’s most scenic highway from Queenstown to Glenorchy you will have the opportunity to stop and photograph incredible vistas as your guide shares insights with you. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Awesome tour for fans! Dan was very friendly and knowledgeable about the filming locations and the nature questions I threw at him. As A Huge fan I was geeking out at about everything he said. Weather was iffy but Dan switched up the tour to miss some of the bad stuff. LOVED THE DRESS UP!Would do all again!!

What a great trip! You get to see so many Lord of the Rings filming locations in half a day. I had Vicky as my tour guide, she was so knowledgeable, and having been an extra in the film we got a true insight into what it was like on set. You can’t beat that! Definitely recommend taking this trip of you’re a fan, totally get to indulge yourself!

After spending a month in NZ this still one of the absolute highlights of our entire trip. Dan our tour guide had a wealth of knowledge and was great at engaging with the group. The little nuggets of info and the odd quote that he slipped in really made the tour extra special and so worth it.
Not to mention the authentic replicas from Weta. Such a good tour. Can’t thank him enough for being a top bloke and top tour guide. Thankyou Dan.

Overall great experience and great weather. The guide Tammy took us from Queenstown to mt cook, she did a great job guiding us and giving us tour information, plus had a great choice in music!

Shane also guided us from mt cook to Christchurch in a timely manner, he taught us much about the geology of the region including how the rock flour is what contributes to the blue color of lake tekapo. He also guided us in a timely manner and kept level headed, especially due to issues we had with the vehicle stalling and due to a personal event he had so kudos!

Overall very happy with the tour and both guides. My only comment is would it be possible to extend the tour duration 0.5- 1 hour longer? The walk at mt cook is beautiful and takes 3 hours to walk to and from. We had 3 hours to complete this, so I think building in that 0.5-1 hour into that stop would help allow us to walk at a slightly more leisurely pace. We were able to complete the walk and it was manageable, but we had to walk at a faster pace and only stopped briefly at the viewpoint to take pictures.

Even if you're not a Lord of the Rings fan I can highly recommend this tour - especially if you don't have a car. You'll get driven up to the edge of the southern Alps and get some breath taking views all day long. Very much recommend this!

Dan our tour director was fantastic in stopping and pointing out where Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed and he had a lot of behind the scene details how's and why's. Access to the private farm area at the end was great. The pictures of the film scenes and just where they were taken was superb. His enthusiasm for the films was what made it exciting. One of 2 or 3 best experiences in NZ. Thank
