Experience the thrill of body boarding down the Kawarau River with the original riversurfing company! Forget about any white water activity you`ve ever seen. This is Serious Fun Riversurfing. The most exciting, exhilarating and interactive water activity on the planet. Each trip begins in a calm section of the river; the guides give you a full safety briefing and teach you the basics in riversurfing before you set off on your white water adventure. We have the world’s most experienced and qualified guides and 100% safety record since 1989. Where did it all begin? Jon Imhof, a surfer from Hawaii, came to Queenstown to go snowboarding and he liked Queenstown so much that he decided to stay for summer. Missing the waves of the ocean, he looked for an alternative and came up with the crazy idea to follow the rafters down the Shotover River and surf waves on his body board. Although the rapids were great, he found it was too shallow and decided to go down the Kawarau River instead, and the sport of riversurfing was born.In 1989, with riversurfing in high demand, Jon established Serious Fun Riversurfing, the original riversurfing company. A few years later, after looking for other suitable locations around the world, Jon started a sister company on the Zambezi in 1995 and some of the African guides took the sport up to the White Nile in Uganda, and to this day, these are the only three places in the world you can go riversurfing!

Firstly just to say the staff were great, very attentive and friendly. But I felt I needed to do a review to emphasise that this activity is very strenuous and you need to be very comfortable in the water. I would say that myself and my partner are moderately fit young women, and we struggled with this activity. The guides... More

We have just returned from a morning on the rapids with Pavel and the team. We went in the early excursion and arrived at the river at about 10am. We booked the grade 3 trip so that we could surf some of the big rapids and we were not disappointed. The team were very safety conscious and out us at... More

We went riverboarding during our stay in Queenstown in Feb-17. What an adventure! The company offers three levels of riversurfing, and we chose the middle one, never having tried such activities before. We had a small group with extremely friendly and attentive guides. Before the action started, we practiced swimming with the boards and safety procedures in an eddy pool.... More

Went in the afternoon on a hot sunny day. Water was perfect! Had 8 people in group. Do 1.5 hours water time. Grade 3 rapids. Floated into several people frequently which was annoying. Exhausting to stay the path directed by the lead guide. However, very fun day and would love to do again, preferably with smaller group.

I'd never heard of River surfing before I came to New Zealand, so when I learned about the activity during my stay in Queenstown, I decided to see what all the fuss was about! This is an entirely unique way of seeing the beauty that New Zealand has to offer whilst simultaneously providing the adrenaline rush Queenstown promises to deliver... More

I have done a lot of water sports, but this was a first for me. The river flow and the environment was amazing because there were no rocks to worry about while going down the river. I felt very safe and the guides were excellent. We took two 6km runs down the river and I was able to catch a... More

I had done some white water rafting, but not river boarding(sledging). Feeling comfortable in the water is a must, but no experience is necessary. Don't miss this unique experience. Riding the rapids was very exciting and the scenery was amazing.

River surfing is boogie boarding down a river with rapids. It's as much fun as it sounds. You have to be in decent shape! It was a lot harder than I expected because I ended up doing a lot of kicking. This should not stop you from doing it - just make sure you're smart before you go there. Stay... More

One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had so far in New Zealand and the best water sports I've done! The guides were very helpful and told us everything that was going to happen once we were in the water, and helped us out throughout the rapids down stream. I was so scared when I was there to do... If you have time while you're in Queenstown Riverboarding is a must do. So much fun especially on a hot day, what a great way to cool down and have fun at the same time.
