Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just being out in the open and experiencing the walking with Emily was fantastic. She was knowledgeable in every aspect of our tour. We started our tour with the helicopter ride to the drop off point where we started our walk. On the walk, we were able to see the beauty of the mountains, lakes, trees and birds. it was a 5.5 mile walk to get us to the pick up spot where we hopped on a jet boat and experience the thrill of speeding up and down the Dart river. I would have to say that this was one of the top experiences I’ve had in a long time. The culmination of the trip was a beautiful lunch that Emily had prepared for us at Mrs. Woolly country store. I would like to thank Emily end guided walks for this wonderful experience. It was the highlight of our four week adventure. I would highly recommend this walk and especially make sure you ask for Emily.

Writing this review to let others know our experience. Pros: Emily our guide was great. Craig our jet boat driver was great as well. Scenery was beautiful.
Cons: Unbeknownst to us the lunch provided has to be carried by you. We shared a backpack so we didn't have enough space. Lunch was sub-par in our opinion. Lunch bags were cheap and ripped. Jackets were also provided which was great as they were very nice jackets but had we known we wouldn't have packed our own jackets as was noted to bring. Never went to the "Maori cave" noted in the "Highlights" nor did we stop at the cafe in Glenorchy.
Summary: Over-priced

Kia ora TravelBug1010479, Many thanks for taking the time to place a review on your recent experience, your feedback is very valuable to us and we will be taking immediate action to address the concerns you raise about the quality of your lunch. We will also be sure to update the content in our collateral to make it clear that there is an option to borrow jackets instead of using your own and that your lunch needs to be carried. Our sincere apologies that your trip did not include a visit to the cave as mentioned on our website or the stop at the cafe in Glenorchy, we will follow up with our team in relation to this. We're really pleased to hear that you found the scenery to be beautiful and the quality of our guiding and jet boat driving to be great. Thanks again and safe travels. Ngā mihi Lucy

On January 12, we had a super nature walk with Stephen who was a very knowledgeable on the plants, trees, birds and animals. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Stephen as he is truly a great naturalist, a good communicator and is thriving in the outdoors which he obviously loves. Highlight was the view at the end of a short climb with great 360 views and Bob’s Cove.

This one day hike will provide you with a most excellent memory of NZ and its natural landscape.
The hike wasn't easy but is doable for amateur hiker.
Stephen was our guide and was incredible with the pace, information, and care.

The Hollyford trail was a true gem, not a tourist hot spot and such wonderful and diverse environments are encountered. If you're looking for something a little different in your hikes I highly reccomend this trail. The guides were fantastic, the food and service impeccable.

We had a flight delay from the original date we we were schedule to attend this tour and from that period onwards the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our tour Guide Suzanne, was not only helpful, but she had great knowledge of the area. The weather was not good, raining for most of the day, but what I didn’t realised is that this provided more of a scenic experience on the trail, with waterfalls, rivers and wildlife in full effect. Very much worth the effort on going on a rainy day, but Suzanne and the staff at guided walks New Zealand made very pleasurable. Thanks again for an experience I won’t forget.

Dylan our guide showed up on time and started our tour off quick with great info and conversation on the starting bus ride. The jet boat was an amazing way to take in the Dart river and the surrounding valleys. Our hike with Dylan was informative, peaceful, and beautiful. He was very attentive to our comfort level and pace needed for the hike through the bush. Great balance of groomed trail and bush hiking. Intimate way to take in the nature within the Aspiring National Forest.

We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed your day with Dylan and the Dart Wilderness jet boat team - it's certainly a fantastic way to take in the scenery of both the Dart River and Aspiring National Park. We're very lucky to be able to guide in this very special region and it's always great to hear when our guests have enjoyed their day with us. Thanks again and safe travels. Ngā mihi, Lucy

The guides were great and helpful but the core problem was exceptionally poor judgement by the company's management. they requested that we "swap" our Milford Crossing activity with this activity because of road closure problems. What they didn't say is that the same issue behind the road closing would result in terrible conditions for an 8 mile hike. It was horrible. This was not a drizzle but a substantial downpour the entire day. Despite proper clothing, everything and everyone was soaked through. Instead for fording streams, we had to walk through swollen streams. Our shoes and socks were completely wet making the trek uncomfortable. You could not see a thing because of the heavy rains and cloud cover. Pictures were not great because of smeared lenses and difficult to operate cameras with wet gloves. Again, the guides were just fine - cheerful and very helpful to those who had a particularly difficult time but everyone should have been offered a cancellation or postponement option. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone and - as I told one of the managers - I have no confidence in their judgement.

Kia ora thompsonlane We are really sorry to hear that the trip didn’t meet your expectations. Thank you for taking time to provide your feedback so we can reflect on it with our team who strive to have our manuhiri (customer) care at the heart of what they do. We would love an opportunity to discuss your concerns further and if you’d like to, you can contact us directly at info@nzwalks.com. Your safety, and that of our team, is our absolute priority at all times, and we have detailed procedures to ensure a trip is never run in weather conditions we deem to be unsafe. Our guided walks often incorporate crossing waterways where shoes and socks can get wet however our guides assess any crossing in advance, to ensure it is within safe operating guidelines, particularly if there are any changing weather conditions. We understand however that in this case the experience wasn’t enjoyable for you, and that is not want we want for any of our guests. We hope we get chance to connect directly, in the meantime we wish you safe travels. Ngā mihi Lucy

A great trip! Really varied - rainforest, sand dunes, coast, penguins, seals, birds, Maori and European history, jet boat and helicopter. Informative, fun guides, wonderful food, comfy accommodation. We had a great time! I’d rate it over the official Great Walks tracks for interest and variety. Highly recommended.

Kia ora Kate T Thanks so much for taking the time to place a review on your Hollyford experience, we're thrilled to hear you had a great trip. We like to think of the Hollyford as a bit of an 'unofficial' great walk (without the crowds!) so it's always nice to hear one of our guests share that sentiment! We're very lucky to be able to guide in an area that offers so much history within such a remote landscape. Thanks again for your lovely review and recommendation, we'd love to see you back in the valley some day. Ngā mihi Lucy
