We were collected by mini bus from Glenorchy village and driven up the valley to the horses. We were given hats and offered long raincoats as wet weather was forecast. Then we were introduced to our horses and given instructions about how to mount, ride and to take care in the environment we were riding through - eg near a river bed. The staff were absolutely fantastic, excellent with the horses and also to al the clients, sensitive to people’s needs . The horses were beautiful, well kept, wonderful natures and very easy to ride. The ride itself was amazing in incredible scenery of mountains and valleys , with the weather changing all the time , creating a wild atmosphere. I enjoyed every minute!

Kia Ora 792PressJ, Thank you for this fantastic feedback! Our Horses are definitely all very beautiful, well trained, unique animals. Its an amazing way to see our part of the country (even when the weather is a bit wild) and it's great you had such a good time. Have a lovely day. Ngā Mihi, Tessa Burnside-Woods

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 hour jetboat ride with Bill - he was knowledgeable and we liked how he tailored his commentary of the trip to our group's interests. Our family group included a 5 year old through to an 80+ year old and we all thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the spins! Unfortunately the rain and low cloud hid some of the scenery but the heated seats and handrails made it a comfortable trip. Would recommend a good waterproof jacket and even waterproof trousers if there is a chance of rain. Insect repellant a must if in shorts! Thank you Dart River adventures team for a great morning!

This is a don’t miss adventure. We drove to the charming town of Glenorchy to catch the tour. The bus tour stopped to view scenery from Lord of the Rings and several other movies and the forest tour was informative. The jet boat ride was spectacular. The vistas were stunning and the water a beautiful clear blue. The driver was informative and seemed to utterly enjoy doing stunts and 360 spins. We we a bit soaked from the water spray and grinning ear to ear at the end.

We arrived early at the designated starting point but were not picked up by the driver to take us out there, part of the group were, eventually they were able to rectify this. This puts a question on the organisation. The horse I was given did not match my experience he was unresponsive and a typical trail horse that was obviously tired of its job! The track we went through along the river bed was tedious and monotonous. We understood it was a walking pace ride and accepted that for what we thought would be an interesting experience. The girl Anna who did the commentary was lovely. We were told the ride would be for an hour and we were back at the stables in 45 mins. So not good value for money either. As we have travelled around New Zealand have found much cheaper and more interesting options.

Kia Ora, We are very sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your experience with us at Dart River. Our horses are trained to cater to all levels of riding, even beginners and our treks are always walking paced. We think it makes the spectacular scenery even more enjoyable! We do apologise that your horse wasn't what you were expecting but rest assured our horses are all well cared for and loved and have a great life out here in Paradise. In regards to the timing being less then you paid for please do email us on reservations@dartriver.co.nz to discuss further. We appreciate you letting us know here so we have the opportunity to connect with you. We would love to sort this out. Ngā mihi, Zoe

Had a great trip. Views were breathtaking and there were some exciting swerves and spins on the boat trip. Very much 'Lord of the rings' countryside and the pilot of our boat was knowledgeable and entertaining. Slightly marred at the end when the driver of the bus which was coming to pick us up in a remote spot managed to sink that bus in the sand and it was totally stuck. The driver was very unclear were we were to go as this was the second part of the tour (were we should have had a relatively short guided walk through the forest area but due to the bus sinking it was a longer walk and some participants had expected to wait on bus due to mobility issues). The participants were wandering off in various directions. Very chaotic. Sorted eventually and another bus arrived but a bit more training needed for staff when dealing with such situations because I gathered this was not a complete one off. However as we loved the jet boat tour so much, have to give a 5 star recomendation despite that bus!

We went on the Dart Rivers Adventure Funyak Tour at the end of December and I can hands down say that it was the best experience I've had in the Central Otago area. It might seem pricey but considering what is included in this tour, it's incredible value for money. The entire day was really well organised, all the gear that you need is provided and every person who works at Dart River Adventures was friendly and helpful. The jet boat ride is flipping fun mates AND THE VIEWS, goodness gracious, they are breathtaking and made me feel so lucky to be from this beautiful country. The Funyaks were a blissy (and at times very amusing) trip down the river with more stunning views and a delish lunch. Special mention to Gareth who was our Funyak leader, such a great guy who truly made our day. 10/10 will be recommending this experience to anyone who can be bothered listening to me spout on about it.

Daniel was a great river pilot! High speeds, shallow water, lots of spray and 360 spins in the midst of a natural panorama of soaring mountains and an awesome river. Stopped for a rest on a nice beach/sandbar and had a great 2hour ride on the JetBoat. Much Different than Shotover - I strongly recommend Both. The ride from Queenstown to Glenorchy was breathtaking.

We did this as a family if 5. A 6yo, 11yo and 13yo. All of us had a great time. We had perfect weather and JJ our guide was friendly and informative. Kayaking back down the water is never really more than knee deep so you can jump out at just about any time. All the organisation and staff were great. They even managed gluten free lunch for one of our kids who is coeliac just do it!

We had a great day on the Dart River in early January. The group was larger than expected -- we thought we'd be one small group in a boat, but instead there were enough to split up into two full busloads, with two boatloads per bus. Our bus drove overland, stopping for some scenic walks first, while the other group got on the boats and went upriver. After we walked, we all swapped places and boarded the jet boats.

The jet boat ride was a blast. Wear sunglasses or other eye protection, or you'll be crying from the wind in your face! We went up to remote places on the very scenic river, all amazing and unspoiled. We did get soaked a few times with river splashes, but the tour comes with splash jackets (rain ponchos), so it wasn't too cold.

You can't really visit the area and not take a jet boat. Enjoy!

Just follow the instruction email received after payment and reach their front desk 30 minutes before starting time. They will transport you from the town to their horse stables which is about 20 minutes away. The guides are very warm-hearted, helpful during our 2 hours riding sessions. Thanks for providing us such a wonderful memory. We will definitely go back to try again if we will be travelling in south island again.
