Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The old power house is very close to the One Mile Creek Carpark, probably less than a 5 minute walk. I came down the track from Thompson Street and ended up here as I was walking down towards the lake.
The building was interesting to see and there are signs around about the history of the building. The building was closed off so I was able to just look in from the outside. It was an interesting stop and there were a few seats around. It was nice to walk along the creek.

My husband and I were wandering along the shoreline since bad weather canceled our Fiordland trip for the day. We stumbled upon this trail, which immediately makes you feel miles and miles away from the city. There is a little history lesson when you reach the Power House. We kept going up the trail and saw where Ben Lomond picks up ( we were not really prepared to hike and it was closed due to fallen trees). We walked up until and wooden bridge, and then it started sleeting out of nowhere. We decided to turn around because of the weather and because we weren't dressed or prepared to hike. We came out another trail head into a neighborhood and navigated the streets back to town. That was fun. You can take your kids up the the Power House, but any further, be prepared for some steep hiking (oh! and watch out for the wild mountain bikers all over the trails going super fast- scary!). Wish we were dressed to hike and had water to explore more.

Just a few minutes walk from downtown. Follow the stream to the open green glade and the power house. Feel like you are away from it all. Connects to the one mile trail too.

Found by accident walking the many tracks and paths in Queenstown. Lots of history at this little spot and awesome too see people putting so much energy (no pun intended) into its restoration.
Very well maintained track and an easy walk from the main road.
If your interested in the history of the area then check it out.

Its a nice short shady walk on a well maintained path. A look inside through the glass is interesting, as are the information signs outside that tell the history of the power house

If you're near the roundabout, walk up the path for a few minutes to see the power house, with machinery that you can see through the windows and a few placards telling the story. Interesting story.

This static display of the power house is well set out. There is no access to the house, you only get to look in through the windows. There are several display boards outside that tell a very interesting story of how the power supply to Queenstown evolved. We disembarked from the Earnslaw and walked down the road to this place, which is a little hard to find because there are no clear signs. However, once you get to the roundabout it's a nice, short walk up a track beside a stream to the power house. Worth a look.

A cool stop if you have a little extra time! Definitely worth the short walk to see such an integral part of Queenstown's and New Zealand's history.

An old power house (using electricity to produce water, before 1900), renovated, nice to take a look at.. very close to town, you can do that during a quick walk or a run around town. Some useful information too

A great little side walk, for those interested in a bit of the area's settlement history. The Powerhouse has been done up so that visitors can see the restored equipment. Only a couple of minutes from the main road, yet a tranquil setting.
