We chose Ultimate because we wanted to do hiking in the Routeburn/Greenstone valleys and Ultimate is the only outfitter to have private lodges. Nonetheless, we had no idea what to expect. What we found was an expertly run outfitter, outstanding guides, amazing food, and fantastic lodges. The views and the landscape were breathtaking but were best appreciated being led by... More

What a wonderful experience. The weather was fantastic. The views along the way were breathtaking. Thoroughly recommend this trip. My level of fitness is average but I could go at my own pace.I could stop, have a rest and take in the views. The guides were knowledgeable and very kind to us older trampers. The accommodation and food was excellent.... More

We chose to take the three day, hut to hut, Routeburn Track adventure. Fortunately we were rewarded with three days of cloudless weather. This was highly unusual but what a payoff. Following an excellent briefing and equipment check the day before we set off early with three highly qualified guides. Day two is the one with all the eye candy... More

After doing the Milford with Ultimate Hikes last year, which was fantastic, I decided to do The Grand Traverse this year .If you are only going to do one i'd say make it this one. Such a diverse 6 days. From cool green mossy, ferny forests to wide open grassy flats. And everything in between. Spectacular scenery with clear cool... More

We completed the Routeburn with Tony, Kate and Innes in mid-March. I don't think a single thing could have lined up better for our experience with them, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone looking to experience a true view of what NZ has to offer outside of rugby, Marmite and kiwis. We were very well briefed... More

I did both the Milford and Routeburn with them. They are great because they are so well organized (excellent guides, nice lodges etc). But all the organization comes at a price...flexibility! I mean simple things like doing the Milford cruise the evening before when we had a free evening, and the weather was excellent - would have made this hike... More

My adult daughter and I did the 3-day Routeburn Track "tramp" with Ultimate HIkes, and we loved every minute of it. In addition to spectacular, jaw-dropping scenery, we had incredible service and great accommodations throughout the entire trip, thanks to the great service from the staff of Ultimate Hikes. Ultimate Hikes picked us up in Te Anau and I highly... More

This 5 day (3days of walking) hike is the ultimate!!!! We had the most perfect weather and there was nothing we could fault about the staff, Eion,Lilidh, Fumi and Hannah . They were so knowledgeable and helpful. The food was top restaurant quality and there was always more than enough for the hungriest person. The scenery and the whole experience... More

Return visit to Guided Milford Track walk after 22 years. Lone female traveller but completely at ease on the track and at the lodges...guides, staff and fellow walkers were all extremely friendly. Track is tough at times but you take it at your own pace. The guides are moving through the group, no-one is left behind. Facilities at the Lodges... More

We were a group of 8 doing the Routeburn Track in November and we got to experience some unique scenery and weather to go with it. The briefing was informative and the extra gear they provided (rain jackets, packs & liners) was definitely worth taking. The lodge accommodation at the end of each day was fabulous - modern lodges, comfy... More
