We chose the all day hike, about 10 miles ,I think, the scenery was awesome, lunch was ok, but too little and a little weak on creativity. The hike is somewhat strenuous but they do not push so you can pause but it is taxing....More

My wife and I went with another couple on the Milford Track hike, a five-day expedition from a large inland lake out to Milford Sound. The middle three days of the hike were the real challenge, amounting to 33 miles of moderate to difficult hiking...More

We planned the trip with Ultimate Hikes on a very short horizon for a short 1 week trip. The experience exceeded all expectations! We did the 5 day Milford Track walk and would rate it as 1 of the top vacations trips ever.

The Milford Tract may be the finest walk in the world or, perhaps, it is just one of the world's great walks. Either way, traveling with Ultimate Hikes is the manner to do it. The lodges are dry, warm, and comfortable. The food is excellent....More

When visiting NZ in April of 2017, we chose to join Ultimate Hikes for a hike on the Routeburn Track. I'd never joined a guided hike like this before, but mainly booked it so that we could take advantage of the lodges with private rooms...More

To say this is a superbly supported hike is a gross understatement which doesn't do justice to the phenomenal experience that "Ultimate Hikers" have in walking the Greenstone and Routeburn tracks. My daughter-in-law and I booked the dormitory accommodation in lodges which escalated from perfectly...More

Hi, the generated power is turned off at 10pm and back on again at 7am so there is no heating in the rooms between those hours. Generally the weather is quite warm in the months of December and January and heating is not... More

Hi - four of us will be doing the Classic in March and are so excited. Would anyone share how tipping the guides is handled? Looks likes most treks have four guides. Appreciate any feedback so we can plan ahead to bring gratuity for the last day.

Tipping is not customary in NZ nor is it expected. The staff are generally paid very well. But if you are use to tipping I would suggest emailing ultimate hikes with your query as they were very helpful in our planning stage. More

We are doing the 2 night, 3 day walk with Ultimate Hikes. Is there somewhere at the Queenstown office where we can leave luggage whilst hiking? Thanks Jane

Unfortunately they don't which is a real pain if you are doing your hike at the beginning or end of a vacation. You can however store your baggage at the Airport securely for about $8 per day.
