Milford's tallest falls
Jul 2020
This is Milfords tallest waterfall at 162 mtrs. You can get a good view on foot by walking out at low tide, but not as good of a view if you take a boat trip.

Lady Elizabeth Bowen Falls, Milford Sound
Mar 2020
My wife and I were on a tour and did the overnight Milford Sound cruise. The scenery we saw from the cruise ship was spectacular and awe inspiring - so rustic, in particular, the Lady Elizabeth Bowen Falls. The falls are 162 m high. In Maori, the falls are known as Hine Te Awa meaning ‘girl on the river’ after the lower third of the falls that resemble the plumage of the Te Kereru bird (NZ Wood Pigeon).

Amazing scene
Nov 2019
Amazing looking waterfalls seen during the boat ride in the Milford Sound. The Bowen River plunges from top of the cliff in Milford Sound. An amazing sight.

Spectacular
Feb 2020 • Couples
A must visit location in New Zealand.

Best if seen by boat. These falls go year round. Others on Milford sound crop up after a rainy period.

Truly beautiful.

Looks great
Feb 2020
These falls are great to look at. They look small from a cruise ship, but when you see a smaller tourist ship nearby they are huge and spectacular

The free-falling waters
Jan 2020
Nice to see the free falling waters, making their way down the rocky slope, but having seen fantastic waterfalls in Canada, Brazil-Argentina, and China, I can't rate this any better than average.

Highest and most Powerful Waterfall in Milford Sound
Nov 2019
The permanent Bowen Falls is the highest and most powerful waterfall in Milford Sound. Waterfall height is 162m. This beautiful waterfall supplies electricity for the Milford Sound township (hydropower) and water. This waterfall is accessible via a 30-minute walk, a cruise boat, a kayak trip or a sightseeing flight. Bowen Falls is named after Diamantina Bowen, the wife of George Bowen, the fifth governor of New Zealand. Well worth a visit.

Rainbow near the Falls
Dec 2019
Our cruise took us near the waterfall. It had been raining all day. The falls had plenty of water and were beautiful. The sun came out just as our cruise came near the falls. Beautiful rainbow appeared. Magnificent!

Milford Sound's tallest waterfall
Nov 2019
The tallest of Milford Sound's two permanent (year-round) waterfalls at 531 feet, Lady Bowen Falls is located near the head of Milford Sound. It is named after Diamantina Bowen, wife of a New Zealand governor. In addition to providing stunning views, Lady Bowen Falls provides water and power to the small settlement in Milford Sound. Our cruise ship, Celebrity Solstice, gave us a good view of the falls, then turned around and sailed back out of the fiord.
