We took the Real NZ coach from queenstown to Milford Sound with a quick lunch at Te Anua and stops along the way to and back. The scenary was spectacular. Our coach guide /driver Paulie "Potato" was fantastic, extremely knowledgeable of the region , the geology, the plants and the birds. He's really passionate about the region and also has wonderful stories about his local adventures to share. Made the bus ride both enlightening and entertaining!

The overnight cruise was also fabulous. We were really well fed, the staff were very friendly and hospitable. Our ensuite was small but comfortable. The information from Ruby the nature guide was interesting and we loved the absolute quietness on the boat at night and the symphony of bird songs in the early morning. By staying overnight on this boutique cruise we also missed the crowds from the daytrippers which made it a very pleasant, relaxing 2 days.

Sure it was more expensive than the day trip version but it was well worth it, and I'd highly recommend Real NZ. We did their Shotover River Rafting and that was fantastic too!

Wow! What a great review. Thank you for taking the time to write it - it is so good to hear you enjoyed all the elements of your trip and that you also managed to squeeze in a rafting trip too!

Exceptional crew and outstanding chef made this 2 night cruise a wonderful in depth experience of Doubtful Sound. The atmosphere was professional and personal.
At every meal the chef excelled with her vast variety, quality and presentation of meals.
Most crew have multiple duties and worked so hard, e.g. one minute raising the anchor, the next brewing coffee.
Every crew member went out of their way to give guests the best possible of experience of all the beauty and wildlife of Doubtful Sound.
Dev the naturalist was very knowledgeable and shared this in a relatable, relaxed way.

As expected on a small boat, the cabins and ensuite bathroom were compact but functional. Most importantly the beds were very comfortable.
Wines were very expensive because the wine list did not include any mid quality wines in a lower price range, which was a common complaint among the passengers.
The transfer from Manapouri to the Sound was by comfortable ferry, then an informative scenic 1.5 hour coach trip through virgin forest and past many waterfalls.
We were lucky to be blessed with beautiful sunny weather the entire duration which completed an overall wonderful experience.

We had a fabulous ride on the Real Journeys jet boat experience. The boat was spacious and strong with a speedy engine. Our driver was friendly and very knowledgeable of the area, providing good insight into landmarks. The driver performed many Hamilton turns and always checked that we were okay and comfortable. This jet boat ride was by far the best value for money in Queenstown - the driver kindly offered to take pictures for us too. It was that much of a good experience - be sure to take a jacket if you don’t want to get wet and the wind is blowing. Thanks Real Journeys (we also had fabulous trips in Milford and Doubtful Sound and the Te Anau glow worms - wonderful company). Highly recommend.

We did this tour in Nov. Picked up in Te Anau. The coach was modern and clean – glass roof panels and wide panoramic windows which are great to get the most out of the breathtaking scenery enroute from Te Anau to Milford (the glass roof panels was the reason I picked Real Journeys over the other operators). The seats were comfortable and able to be reclined. Our driver (Jill) provided interesting commentary during our drive to Milford and was very pleasant. Enroute we stopped at various points for photo opportunities – we were very lucky in that the weather was clear blue skies so the views were constantly amazing. At one photo stop we managed to see a Kea close up which was a fantastic bonus. The boat we travelled on was the Mariner and the trip took us out through the sound to where it meets the open ocean. There was onboard commentary provided along the way. A cash only bar – you are allowed to take your drinks outside on the deck but not the food purchased on board. But that was ok we took our own lunch and ate outside on the deck with a wine from the bar. I recommend this tour it was well organised and I booked online direct with Real Journeys and took advantage of their multi buy discount by booking the Doubtful Sound cruise as well. This price was cheaper than booking through one of the discount websites for daytrips such as Bookme.com.

We really enjoyed the overnight cruise. Milford sound was amazing and we saw dolphins and penguins. Staff on board was friendly and helpful, and very informative. We had a twin cabin which was more spacious than the photo on their website. Food was pretty good.

The reason I took one star off was because of the customer support. When we booked our trip, we wrote to RealNZ to ask about coach from Queenstown to Milford terminal. They told us they do not have coach for the overnight cruise but could arrange private couch for us if we want. We ended up taking the Inner City bus, which means we had to wait around 4 hours at the terminal before our tour, and 6 hours after our tour. When we arrived at the terminal, we found out that they did end up having a couch for the overnight cruise, they just didn't have it yet when we booked so much in advance. I wish they would've emailed us and asked if we want to book the coach, but instead we had to sit at the terminal until our bus leaves. The staff at the terminal counter was helpful and tried to see if they could help us get on the RealNZ coach, but there wasn't much they can do since it was fully booked.

Also they make us sit with other people for dinner (4 people at one table) even though there were plenty of space for every group to sit separately. Since COVID is still a concern, I wish they would let the groups sit separately for dinner. We were able to sit separately during breakfast, so don't really understand why we needed to sit together at dinner.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review and for bringing this issue to our attention. We added our overnight coach connection options around September this year, which may be why they were unavailable to book when you first contacted us. To ensure this issue does not happen again in the future, we will: - Give our contact centre team further training in creating standby bookings and adding clear requests. - Have our Visitor Centre teams check all booking notes prior to departure. We aim to create a seamless booking journey to ensure all guests have the best experience possible. So again, thank you for sharing your feedback, and we hope you enjoyed your overnight cruise through Milford Sound.

Absolutely brilliant experience! We did the jet boat and then the white water rafting, and the whole experience was exhilarating.

The jet boat starts in the lake, but then we were flying down the beautiful Kawarau river, skimming around corners and under trees, and doing 360 degree pirouettes in the water.

Our driver was very skilled and a great host, and I'd thoroughly recommend this to anyone!

We then went on to do the white water rafting, and this was amazing fun. As well as paddling, there were multiple opportunities to get out and swim or float, both on calm sections and also on one of the less wild rapids.

We also had a spot where we could get out and climb up onto a 3m high rock where we could jump off into the river.

It does require physical effort (no slacking!) but we had an absolutely amazing time, and if you can do both it'll be one of the most fun things you've ever done!

My 89 year old father and I booked to go on the Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and the Te Anau Caves.
Sadly because my father's COVID Passport wouldn't scan on their scanner they refused him the ability to go on any of the trips.
Despite the manager being called who reiterated the same thing with only a suggestion of going away to speak with MoH to obtain a passport that scanned and an insinuation his passport may not be a genuine one, despite him having his vaccination record and photo ID.
MoH were able to supply another passport which did scan on their scanner enabling us to go on all cruises a day later, although this meant we had to stay another night and lose a day's work for me.
Whilst the cruises were excellent and the staff amazing, sadly the H&S was also sadly lacking in that there was no H&S briefing before boarding the boat resulting in my 89 year old father falling flat on his face entering the boat. Fortunately he sustained no major injury other than a bruised knee. (The briefing advising of the hazard upon entry to the boat was given ON the boat and not prior to boarding). We were also encouraged to take hot cups of coffee in china cups onto the boat instead of our request for 'to go' cups which were provided after insistence. Lastly on a 2.5hr coach drive to Milford the coach driver did not ask or remind passengers of the importance mask wearing on the coach. When I politely asked if he would do this, as there were 12 or more people not wearing masks, his reply was 'you and I are wearing masks so we are okay'. He did mention mask wearing after this however, but no-one paid any attention. On the return coach journey there were no stops like on the outward bound journey (2.5hrs) where passengers were only advised after leaving Milford. Considering there were elderly people and children travelling, being advised beforehand would have been advisable.
This was reported to the company afterwards whereby the General Manager listened and confirmed a process was being undertaken to deal with the persons concerned to avoid this reoccurring and a refund of Doubtful Sound cruise was provided and appreciated. My father and I were grateful for this.
The emotional roller coaster my father and I went through cannot be undone. Being refused was undeniably the most awful experience ever experienced, and one which could have been avoided.
During these difficult times, common sense should prevail.

We sincerely apologise for your stressful experience with us in Milford Sound. We set a high standard for customer service and Health & Safety across the RealNZ experiences, so it’s devastating to hear such a negative review. We appreciate your honest feedback and would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. As this discussion has already been dealt with offline with the General Manager and a refund has been issued, all that’s left to do it apologise once more. We will be reviewing our current processes and taking steps to ensure this does not happen again in the future.

We did the RealNZ Rakiura experience in winter. I recommend doing the trip no matter how big or small or what time of the year.
The package deal comes with return ferry rides to and from Rakiura, a bus tour and a tour to Ulva Island.
The ferry trip comes with a few thrills in winter which added to the crossing of the Foveaux Strait.

My day started at 7:35 am having waited in the cold for a bus trip to Milford Sound...destination in all the travel books. The bus ride was long with only two toilet stops, no chance for the short walk my booking notes listed. The ride had to be completed within time restraints due to road conditions to get us to the boat on time. The driver did give information along the way which helped, but no chance to nap. From the bus we rushed to our boats and they did leave right on time. I had the 2.5 hour cruise which was supposed to be more in depth. There was very little talked about. The captain said a few things and when the seals were seen sunbathing a woman talked two minutes about them. That was it. The coffee machines were not working well and one was shut down. The crew, 1-2 young men, were not much in attendance. In fact I saw people standing at the counter to get their lunches and finally had to go in the back where the crew guy was washing dishes for help. That’s not many crew considering there were many passengers on board! Rather than the long long ride back to Queenstown I paid for the 35 minute flight. It was the only good part of the long expensive day and I saw more than the bus ride and cruise combined. Lastly, I was overcharged having booked the flight with Real Journeys as I learned when others on my flight paid direct to the flight office for less! That had not been presented to me as a choice by the organizer I had been using!

The Milford Sound Overnight Cruise was possibly the highlight of our entire honeymoon! We luckily got the last overnight cruise of the season. The cruise was all-inclusive, with dinner, breakfast, and lodgings.

We spent the first half viewing Stirling Falls and going on a small boat tour around Harrison Cove while hearing about the natural phenomenon around the sound. Seeing sunset on the boat in Milford Sound was absolutely stunning. At night, there were plenty of events to keep us occupied, but everybody mainly spent time gawking at the Southern Lights that graced us.

The morning after, we headed out to the opening and the Tasman Sea, which was an awe inspiring sight before heading back to the dock.

In between our experiences, we also had plenty of food that was much better than expected. There was plenty of coffee and tea to keep us warm while we spent time outside just soaking in the natural beauty around us. The lodgings were also quite comfortable given that we were out on a boat. Kudos to the entire crew for keeping us entertained and comfortable throughout the entire trip!

I'd also highly recommend exploring the area around the wharf. There are some absolutely beautiful views as well.
