We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is not much of a swim beach...at least not while was here. Long straight beach, walked 1.5 miles out from the entrance in one direction, just seemed like forever. I did not see one person in the water or fishing for that matter. Considering it is the middle of summer, kind of tells you it is more for the beach experience then to make a day of sun and fun in the water. The photos I posted are taken from the entrance looking on the left then right...

The hosts at our B & B suggested Oreti Beach, and we are glad we made the trip. The beach appeared endless (on a cloudy day I could see neither end) and virtually empty, but what makes it unusual is that the hard-packed sand allows you to drive on it. What an experience! Easy to get to from Invercargill. Follow the signs to the airport, but don’t turn in to the airport, keep going. Follow signs to Oreti Beach. You can drive right onto the beach from Dunns Road.

Oreti Beach faces west - so is open to whatever weather is happening in the latitude of the "Roaring 40's". It is a wild, rugged and scenic place with hugely varying moods and that is its charm.

A swim in speedos s a test of physical and mental toughness and courage but you feel wonderful after it.

Cars are allowed on the beach but regularly get bogged so be careful. Best to park and walk.

A lovely tide low tide bike ride on a calm day is to leave bike along the Oreti River track, cut through the Southland Mountain Bike Club bike park onto Christies Road and then to the beach, then back up the beach to the main entrance Stead St.

An exceptionally long beach in both directions! Grey sand, copious sand hills, great for families and couples. Drive or walk for kilometres. Not sure if they still allow it but it used to be great for night meetings, bon fires and music! I still visit here when I return. Don't go swimming at the extreme southern end of the beach, very strong currents! The fish are close to shore, evidenced by what is caught in the nets strung out by men up to their shoulders. In season the locals dig for a large local shell fish, toheroa which they make into fried patties. Plenty of space, wide, wide expanses of sand.

Visited on a cold morning just to see the beach. Would definitely return in summer or at least when the weather is warmer.

My lovely wife and I drove along this beach and did a bit of "circle work" while there. Even though the weather at the time wasn't good we still enjoyed the drive and would thoroughly recommend spending some time on the beach.

The sand is so well packed and solid, you really can take a two wheel drive onto this beach and drive for miles. Just make sure tide is out and will stay out for a while. Drive the speed limit or less and just have fun. Try some 360 degrees tight turns. Take a picnic lunch. See horses being exercised trotting behind owners' trucks. Maybe splash in the ocean if it's warm. Dig mussels. Lots to do here.

Worth a visit just to see a long beach where Burt Munro rode his bike. Great sand dunes for kids to play amongst but very very windy. Make sure everyone has glasses or goggles to keep sand out of eyes and a warm jacket! Unlikely you'll be able to have a picnic on the beach but our kids had fun just chasing the waves and playing in the dunes.

Took friends from Auckland to see this beautiful beach It is flat and sandy with rolling waves and is safe to swim. The view is spectacular and you can drive or walk for miles along the sand. 20 minutes out of the city. Just be careful as you drive on to the sand from where the tar seal ends
