Visually it looks nice enough and is positioned in the middle of the roundabout. Well worth not putting on your lost of places to see.

It is a monument to remember Boer War and involvement of NZ troopers in this South Africa war. However this also created the debates that preceded the erection of Invercargill’s impressive two-level South African War memorial was rich with issues of identity and appropriateness. By the way, this eye catching monument standing tall in the roundabout between Dee Street and Tay Street is easy to spot, and a landmark of the city centre. Have a walk at the surrounding roads, take nice photos for free, all good.

1star in defiance of war politics forced upon well meaning boys. Any war is not good. Let us not forget that

This one was nicely architected, and remembering a war no one remembers or cares about. But folks from this place fought in it. Southern New Zealand really is a different world, very much a Scottish/English overseas territory, almost no multi-ethnic population except the temp workers during summer. Be an anthropologist and just listen and observe. This cenotaph is a good destination to walk to. Stay at the Victoria Railroad Hotel and walk about town for at least a day and a half before you run off to see the wee beasties on Ulva and Stewart.

It never fails to amaze me that these monumenst are label incorrectly and are called South African. There was never a war in South Africa. There was however a war that was called the Anglo-Boer War and that was fought between the Zuid Afrikanse Republik,, Free State Republic, , Utrectht Republik, Vryhiied Republik, Natal Colony and the Cape Colony.

South Africa was the country that was created and came into being as the Union of South Africa on the 31st May, 1910

Why the monument people throughout the world decided to call them South African when in fact it is WRONG.

I do not take away from the needless slaughter of that war but lets call it what it was , The ANGLO- BOER WAR

Had the same argument at Edinburgh Castle where all the military there0000 is stamped South Africa

Visited on Wednesday 2nd May. This War Memorial takes pride of place at the corner of Dee and Tay Street so stop for a few moments to remember those who died for us.

It was very interesting to find yet another memorial to what they call the "South African" War. As a South African myself I have to assume it to be the the Boer War where the "Mighty" British War Machine had to intern Boer Women and Children in Concentration Camps in order for the Boers to surrender as the British Military could not vanquish the very small number of Boers.

This is a decent and unassuming monument, located in central Invercargill.
We stopped by next to it on the way out of town, but you might as well drive around it for a quick look, as there's nothing much more to see.
