Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great selection of mostly English beers on tap. The service is very good and the setting is wonderful in an old beautiful historic building. One of our favourite spots to stop and have a drink or two in Dunedin.

We stumbled on this absolutely stunning pub in the Heritage quarter while out strolling one evening. Inside, a beautifully refurbished setting and a great choice of familiar English ales. Pure nostalgia for the tastebuds of those who have enjoyed pub life in the UK. And a quiet nook upstairs while we supped and admired the decor.

Went for a drink in this pub with friends. My partner suggested to one of the bar staff that the toilets needed some attention as they weren’t very clean. 5 minutes later the owner came over and started shouting and acting very aggressively. Said she was wrong and a trouble caused. We left immediately. I would never go back and would advise others not to go there

If you are looking for a place that sells mass produced, freezing cold, tasteless lager best avoid this place. It only sells proper beer, a selection of the finest real ales from Britain and the rest of the world. The interior of the pub is beautiful, Victorian ornate high ceilings.

Incredible pub with one of the largest selections of English (others too) draft beers of any pub in NZ I know of.
First you take in the incredible interior and especially the incredible attention to detail on the ceiling restoration.
Second try and choose from the large selection of beers on offer....
Michael the owner is an exceptionally profession publican who prides himself on his unique offering and the atmosphere he creates. Customers add to the experience by chatting away...

Been in here a couple of times with people, and the Duke was converted to an 'English Pub' pub some time around around 2010. It specialises in English beers, and it's been quite tastefully done. I'm keen on brewing, the beer here has come a long way, and I'm not entirely convinced it's at its best - but I normally go for innovative modern craft brews with strong (sometimes odd) flavours, so draw your own conclusions. Service also felt offhand, unsmiling and a bit harried and stressed, and I didn't feel at home there, so probably won't be back.

Where to start. In the historic Exchange area of town in an old world charm building this place is a delight. First you are hit by the ambiance of wood and gold paint, then the stunning array of ales on tap and in the chiller. Informative host, clearly a dedicated crew of locals. There is a lot to like here.

Visited the Duke of Wellington pub in Queens gardens for a couple of beers. Has an excellent selection of British beers/real ales many of which we have sampled over the years in the UK and they have travelled well. Friendly atmosphere and stunning building. Prices $12 a pint.

An amazing place with a wide variety of beers to suit every palate. Great ambience, classy without being pretentious and lots of parking around. A must see when visiting Dunedin. A new addition has been my favourite Kingfisher on tap! Ye Gods!

The Duke of Wellington's selection of beers on tap is more diverse and first class than any other pub I've ever been.
The building has been immaculately restored with wrought iron fences on the second floor balcony and quaint rooms with wood finishings.
If you have been in search of full flavored, full bodied, craft brew since you arrived in New Zealand this is the place for you!
