Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Found our new favourite pub in Dunedin, ventured away from the octagon area and came across this pub. Great selection of beers. Chatty landlord real nice guy.
The inside has been restored to its full glory looks amazing, definitely worth a visit, only thing missing was scampi fries 😂

Superb pub with an outstanding Publican. Great range of European beers and service with a smile.
The place was spotless and was a most enjoyable spot for an afternoon drink. Highly recommend.

I’ve been all over NZ and sampled the black stuff form many pubs but the Duke gets first prize. Awesome pub, well decorated and has a lovely feel to it. Can’t recommend this place enough and I look forward to going back there.

Great selection of mostly English beers on tap. The service is very good and the setting is wonderful in an old beautiful historic building. One of our favourite spots to stop and have a drink or two in Dunedin.

Recently held a family function. Michael and Tracy were excellent hosts catering for 50 people. The setting is an excellent ambience as good as any old English pub. The range of tap beers is fantastic. Several quests sampled a wide range of product. All available at modest prices. Wines and spirits available too but beer is more popular. Finger food provided was excellent and spot on in terms of amount and variety.

Dropped in for a welcome pint of Cassels. Friendly landlord, great beer and good company. Perfect end to the evening.

We stumbled on this absolutely stunning pub in the Heritage quarter while out strolling one evening. Inside, a beautifully refurbished setting and a great choice of familiar English ales. Pure nostalgia for the tastebuds of those who have enjoyed pub life in the UK. And a quiet nook upstairs while we supped and admired the decor.

One if the most beautiful pubs I've ever been too with a great variety of draft beers for a very reasonable price. The barkeeper is super nice and can help picking out the right beer

I read an earlier review and came to Duke of Wellington expecting craft beers. I was quite disappointed. They had a good selection of standard British low ABV (< 6%) beers but no higher ABV beers or imperial stouts. Indeed nothing of the newer brewers like Brew Dog. So, if you're into Shepard Neame, Adnams, Belhaven, etc. this may be your place ( they were out of Belhaven when I was there). The bartender was not particularly helpful when I asked about an imperial stout, suggesting a 5.2% milk stout.

Where to start. In the historic Exchange area of town in an old world charm building this place is a delight. First you are hit by the ambiance of wood and gold paint, then the stunning array of ales on tap and in the chiller. Informative host, clearly a dedicated crew of locals. There is a lot to like here.
