Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a great walk, right in the middle of the City, great collection of tracks with the native bush and birds. Variety of tracks depending on time allowed. Would be good in the summer with all the picnic spots, bbq and play areas.

We wandered through these gardens. There are a series of walkways and they're not well signposted, but the trees and bush are just magical. Some of the tallest trees in NZ are found in here. Allow time to just walk and explore and admire/enjoy your surroundings.

This is quite short for a walk, but would appeal to those wanting 20 minutes on a loop track that is not strenuous. It has some interesting large trees and some native bush with ferns etc. for contrast. A children's laying ground was popular when we visited as well as green lawn areas for picnics. Could be combined with another flat walk nearby in the lower part of the Botanical Gardens.(We walked between them)

Take yourself and your children to the idyllic surroundings of the Woodhaugh gardens, where you and the family can enjoy the 'free' gas powered barbeques, picnic tables, shade under trees, a decent sized paddling pool (great for all ages) and playground suitable for young and old.

The greatest part about visiting this venue is the sub climate. In Dunedin it has been particularly windy this year but you wouldn't know it down at the gardens because it is sheltered by trees and hills.

Great park close to town. With a great paddling pool for young ones. Lots of slides and a flying fox. Head down the river for a walk.

Thought I had done this review a while ago, but it did not go through and since I have visited it a few times. Come here with children of any age, there is a playground which is spread around the park and duck pond at the far end. There is a small pool only up to the knees for the kids and is a great place for them to splash around on hot summer days. If you go to the DOC website and look up Kiwi guardians there is a way for your child to gain a medal for doing an exploration of the park and looking at the Leith river and animals/plants. If you continue next to the river you can continue up the Leith river and up to Ross Creek and explore more of Dunedin.

Gardens to admire, swings and such for the kids, bar-b-q's available for picnics or just take your lunch for a quiet half hour as it's so close to the city. Duck ponds a bit stinky on a hot day but the kids will love feeding them bread

Stopped in Dunedin on a cruise ship and the volunteers pointed us towards Woodhaugh Gardens. We have 7, 8, and 9 year olds. There is a flying fox, slippery dips, swings, trees that can be climbed, bbqs, picnic tables and walks. The toilets are clean and have soap and paper and the garden is not crowded. Such a great spot for the kids to run of energy and have some free play. We came by bus $2.70 adult and $1.60 kids fare and the driver told us where to get off. We got off at Botanic Gardens by mistake (one stop too far) and walked about 5 mins to get here. There's a supermarket near the Botanic Gardens that I bought some snacks and there's a pub etc there as well.

We spent over an hour here to get away from the rainy weather outside. Nice and cozy covered walkways, tearoom and beautiful garden. Calm and quiet.

Lovely quiet and peaceful place to picnic or barbeque with or without the kids. Feed the ducks or just to stroll in the beautiful garden surroundings. Plenty of parking or just 15 minutes stroll from the centre of town
