When visiting Dunedin's Railway Station to view an art exhibition, we noticed information regarding a train trip on the Seasider- Dunedin-Oamaru return. As this is a twice a year excursion, we booked for the coming trip. The scenery is spectacular and so much more can...More

Took the Seasider train trip to Waitati to view the beautiful coastal scenery of Otago harbour. The return train trip takes 90 minutes. The scenery is well worth taking in. Cost $120 for two Adults return which isn't the cheapest excursion but was enjoyable. Guided...More

This is the name for a train trip by the Dunedin railways. We did the 90 minutes version to Waitati and back. You do see some wildlife and impressive scenery.

We took the Waitati Seasider rail journey which is about a 90 minute return journey and which takes you from Dunedin to Waitati and back. We arrived in Dunedin by cruise ship and the shuttle bus from the port follows a coastal road into Dunedin...More

Train travel is usually expensive on tourist tracks, so we considered the $50 ticket for a 90 minute ride quite reasonable. (A lot less than the rates charged for people booking via cruise ship companies!) The train runs two or three times a day during...More

We went on the Oamaru Seasider train, 7 hours return. It was well worth the money, we were a bit disappointed at first that due to technical difficulties, the Silver Fern engine was not available and we had to go with diesel engines, BUT in...More

We took the Waitati Seasider, this is the shortest of the seasider journeys. If you only have a few days in Dunedin you will not have much choice as the seasider travels the various routes on specific days/dates - not every day. That said we...More

We loved this train trip. It was very scenic and we loved our short visit to the town of Oamaru. My only complaint is that I would have liked the train to stop for longer in Oamaru, eg 2 hours. Despite that the trip exceeded...More
