We only went because of the butterfly release experience, and that was great. Our kids (8mths, 3yrs) loved the enclosure and the butterflies floating around. We didn't have time to see the rest of the museum, but it looks pretty good. And great coffee in the shop!

A visit to the Otago Museum is a must when you are in Dunedin especially on a rainy day. The coffee shop is very inviting while the entry is free. The exhibits are good and the computer technology is up to date,as you can see the old streets as they have been transformed to the present day.At one place you... More

A great place in any weather but ideal on an inclement day if you have kids to entertain. Lots of interactive stuff to make kids think and the exhibits are extremely well presented. A great value attraction for at least a half-day visit.

School holidays and granddaughters 9 and 5 flew to Dunedin to visit grandma ..The highlight of their visit was the trip to the butterflies and discovery world ..Children happy spending hours at the museum .They also enjoyed the display on climate change and rear way to learn about this issue ..

A 'must visit' when in Dunedin. Friendly welcome, nice coffee shop and well laid out exhibits. The tracing of indigenous peoples throughout the South Pacific region was very interesting.

Loved this place. Bright and airy and uncrowded. Plenty of time to look at all exhibits. Butterfly garden and children's play area were a real hit with my daughter - just remember to triple check yourself for butterflies on your way out of the area! Lovely collection of eclectic things; Pacific culture, maritime history, Edmund Hillary's possessions, even a massive... More

This museum does an excellent job of presenting the natural and social history of the Otago region. Very helpful staff are present to answer questions.

Loved the interactive learning and the butterflies were awesome. I never thought I would spend almost 5 hours there. I am already planning to go back for another visit when I have relatives stay with me from the UK. The only thing that let it down was the cafe which was very average

Great way to spend a reainy day. Lots to see around the museum itself, well spaced and fun. My kids love siting on the allagator, and going through the rock cave steps. We all love the butterflys and other things in discovery world, The food at the cafe is also great
