Been a couple of times with young children. Usually on a fairly low budget. We don't get to all the exhibitions as budget does dictate, but we are still kept busy for hours. The butterfly house takes up a large portion as well as the...More

Don't miss the butterfly sanctuary in the museum, it's a highlight of New Zealand (let alone the museum). Also really enjoyed checking out the 'Animal Attic'.

My earliest memories of the Museum are when my Grandfather used to take me in the 50s. The main entrance then was in the front with the Moeraki boulders on either side. I enjoyed revisiting and was impressed with the quality of the exhibits. The...More

Well worth spending an hour or two exploring the galleries which are spacious and well laid out. Also good café and gift shop on site.

This Museum Is absolutely Amazing. It has several floors of collections of Maori heritage, and fine displays of NZ articles, and items. You will need at least 2hrs to see everything, and that's too quick,IMO. Awesummm.

There are plenty of things to learn and do at this Museum, you can fill in either part of your day or nearly all of it.

Yes it is seriously over rated and compressed with a focus on food and retail selling.. The displays are compressed into tight over crowded areas and the knowledge lay out and what you gain on display are poorly presented...plus the parking is nightmarish ...
