I wanted to see the museum collection for personal reasons. My grandmother's guardian had donated some items from China and I was curious to take a look - not expecting my children ages 8, 10, & 12 to have so much fun. The butterfly exhibit was the primary draw for them but the hands on room of science had them... More

Do not miss this museum. It has very interesting collection, well presented, really good work. I recommend the films about Dunedin and Otago Peninsula and very exciting shows in Planetarium.

Just been to see WE ARE THE STARS IN 3D. An awesome, comfortable and educational experience in the Planetarium. Enjoyed by young and old! Highly recommend this show (one of three available). Rest of the museum is top class too. Loved the cute globetrotting jewelled gecko that is now back home.

If you like a good strong cup of leaf tea, the Otago Museum cafe is the best! Ask the staff for more hot water for second cup.

I'm not a museum person, I seem to rush through them. This was actually a good museum to walk through. Lots to see and plenty of information to indulge in. Plus as a bonus it's free. There is a heap of "added costings" these are mainly for the kids and they are quite reasonable in price. I would recommend around... More

Variety of diplays, discriptive. Spent two hours and did not see everything. Free admission would be worth seeing while in Dunedin

We went particularly to see the butterflies in the Tropical Garden and were not disappointed. Three levels to walk around surrounded by butterflies flying freely throughout. There were also some quails, turtles and fish to see and some tarantulas ( in glass cases) to see. Enjoyed the 1/2 hour we spend in there. Also saw some other exhibits in the... More

This museum was so much fun! There was loads of interactive displays and a type of learning games room for kids too (although I was with a group of four adults and we all had a blast in there!) The planetarium put on a great show (with a few to choose from) there is a butterfly forest which was amazing... More

A great museum where floor 3 is by far the most interesting and we fortunately took the lift there first. This section covers a lot to do with geology and extinct creatures. What was particularly fascination about the fossil section is the presentation of the skeletons in the way where they where found rather than what I have seen in... More
