Yes it is seriously over rated and compressed with a focus on food and retail selling.. The displays are compressed into tight over crowded areas and the knowledge lay out and what you gain on display are poorly presented...plus the parking is nightmarish ...

The building houses both a museum and science center. The museum is free while there is a charge for the science center. I visited just the museum to see the Maori artifacts due to limited time. This display was excellent with little duplication from Maori...More

I went to the new Tuhura science centre at the Otago Museum and it was my second time in the science centre with my family and thoroughly enjoyed it so would give it a 10/10

Otag Musum's collections of Pacific people are fantastic! There are many beautiful and interesting items of vessels, tools and art crafts. Its souvenir shop offers very good prices for some gifts.

As museums go, this is a great one. There is something for everyone here - kids love the scientific experiments, adults love the collections and history and heck, everyone loves the butterfly house! Great spot to take the family to either expand your knowledge, or...More

Dunedin is easy to miss off the schedule, but this museum and Otaku Settlers are worth the detour, and stay at Hunter Moon BNB. Fabulous carvings and Maori displays. Just parking a bit tricky, worse for us as downpour rain.

Thank you for the kind review! Parking has been quite an issue recently especially with council roadworks, hopefully we see positive changes :)

The Otago Museum is a great place to go on a rainy day. There are some incredible pieces in the collection, the maritime area is a favourite of mine.
