The Maori gallery, Tangata Whenua, is wonderful, with many interesting and beautiful objects to admire and a wealth of interesting information. This was what I really wanted to learn more about on my first visit to New Zealand. I went on to the section on Polynesian cultures and then the Nature gallery, which introduces wildlife which one can observe when... More

We visited today and only had time to check out the photography exhibition and the Polynesian cultures section - they were both fantastic and we will be back to see the rest!

Great place for all ages. Kids will love it. So much to see and learn. Science room and the butterfly room its a must go if visiting with kids. They charge a small fee to get in but is well worth it. Lovely cafeteria at the ground level. Good access for wheelchair. Its a big museum and it takes a... More

We took our two young girls to the see the butterfly in the tropical forest. It was a great opportunity to see a living tropical habitat and all the beautiful butterfly. We were there for the "first flight" of the day and the girls got to hold a butterfly each - that was a real highlight for them! It was... More

My daughter and I visited the butterfly display at the museum. AMAZING. We spent ages just walking around watching all the different butterflies flying around. The area comes complete with a waterfall and high rise bridge . Wonderful to see such a variety of colours and types of butterflies. The staff were very helpful and we happened to be there... More

The Otago Museum has a very wide collection, nicely ordered per floor and room. Maybe the presentation is quite old fashioned but it can most certainly keep one's attention.

What an incredible Museum to visit, there is plenty to see and lots to take in, there are a lot of Maori artifacts on display, the museum is well worth visiting, we had a limited time so didn't get to visit every gallery, we did have some fun with other visitors at the whispering disc's, great fun try it.

Have been to the museum a few times and find it enjoyable with every walk through. The collections are put together logically and updated regularly. Plenty of areas that are interactive and fun, geared especially toward kids. A must-see for anyone spending time in Dunedin.
