I have had the pleasure of playing Chisholm Park and the other main course's in Dunedin on more than a few occasions over the past few years and I would rate Chisholm Park as the best in the Dunedin area.
Coming from the Central Otago area I have the opportunity to play some nice tracks i.e Jacks Point, The Hills, Millbrook, Arrowtown and Cromwell to name a few and I rate Chisholm right up there with them.
The views from Chisholm's top few holes 8 thru 11 are simply breath taking with 9 being the signature hole of the course, which is played along the cliff tops of a headland with the green only metres from a 100 or so metre drop into the Pacific Ocean.
The greens can only be described as superb, they roll true and in the summer the fairways dry off to a true crusty linksy look with bare lies and nasty bounces to intimidate you before meeting slick greens.
The clubhouse is fantastic and the 19th seems to be open most afternoons (well it was during the times I visited) for a wee tipple after a round.
The only negative I could find which is only a small personal gripe is it would have been nice to see a few more fairway bunkers on the course and some more challenging rough but thats only my opinion.
However, as this is a links course it gets windy and I mean windy and it will test every shot you have in your bag, but isn't that why we play golf, to test our skills and see how good we are? So be prepared to forgo the usual pitch into the green and lofted fairway shots like you can do on a parklands course as you will be punished for it.
Most of us don't get to play links golf often and if you get the opportunity to play a links course your golf will thank you for it, probably not immediately, but later on when you have had time to reflect.
If you get the chance to play Chisholm Park its a great course and the locals are very very friendly and I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I have done.

This course was my first links and I really enjoyed the challenge. Lots of undulating fairways and sloping greens.
Alan was great when we booked. Definitely worth going out just for the views!!

Last day landfall on a cruise was a great break. In conjunction with Good Company Tours, was really looked after by the local pro,and clubhouse staff. Terrific links course, a real challenge with a steady breeze. Pick up from the boat, and dropped back including a tour of the city. Thoroughly enjoyable

Granted, we were here in the winter...so it was not exactly warm. However, we were on holiday in New Zealand from the US, and one of the activities I really wanted to do was to play golf in NZ. Golf pro Allan was helpful: I had communicated via email previously to make sure the course is not closed for the winter. We had wanted to play on a Saturday because the weather would have been the best (sunny and warmer) out of the four days we were in Dunedin, but only twilight was available after 3:30 due to club tournaments - we would not be able to get a cart. We opted to head out for a round Friday mid-morning even though the weather was not ideal. Nobody else braved the course, so we ended up having the course to ourselves. Great decision.

We rented two sets of clubs (NZ$20 ea) and a cart (NZ$25), and played the front nine (NZ$40 ea). The course was in reasonably good shape...and I think the green fees was a bit more than expected given that it is winter. However, what's a few more bucks when you're traveling!??!

I believe Chisholm Links is rated #1 in Dunedin and one of top 25 in New Zealand. Worth a visit!!

Great value and good fun. Old style links with no frills. If you ascribe to a "manicured" look then you won't like this course - but this is more like golf as it was origninally planned: there are some cool and interesting holes. I've played here twice and had a great time on both occasions.

Flew in early for a business trip to save $$$$ and bought my clubs to fill in the extra time. Time well spent... A lovely course with plenty of wind. For me hole 9 was stand out along the cliffs. Awesome views and I scored a part to boot. I will be back!

Learn to play here and you know where the divot starts. No lush fairways and margin for error. Great course with stunning views of ocean and city. Well worth a visit, and if you are not a golfer it's a great place for a run or walk. Another Dunedin gem!
