Amazing church
Apr 2021
Such a brilliant looking church. We learnt about the history of it on our Hair Raising Tour at night and went to look at it during the day.

Fairly standard church
Nov 2019
As we are from Europe and have seen loads of churches, we were not that impressed with this one. It looks very nice from the outside, but inside it's fairly standard. The big tree outside was pretty impressive though. As most things in Dunedin are within walking distance, it's worth a short visit.

Historic Church
Jan 2020
This historic church is a short is a short walk for the Octagon in Dunedin. The church is open to the public who can enjoy the stained glass windows and timber ceiling and engage in some quiet contemplation.

Awe-inspiring, beautiful Gothic church
Jan 2020
I like the Gothic architecture and the stained glass windows. The history displayed in the church is very informative, and good to read from a historical perspective.

An original in Dunedin
Nov 2019
It's really a lovely church for a Presbyterian house of worship. The wood rafters at least were made from wood sent from the Pacific NW in the US (where I live) because none of the local wood was seasoned when it was built. It preceded the Anglican cathedral on The Octagon, and the location was predicted to be the prime location. WhileThe Octagon is in the center of town, this church is a few easy blocks away. Unfortunately, the pipe organ is no longer a pipe organ though the front of the church depends on some "substitute" pipes for its structure.

Gothic in style with a fair view over Dunedin
Jan 2019 • Couples
The church is very gothic with well discoloured stone. The nave is in good proportion to the main spire, with good symmetry from the additional smaller towers.
Internally there is a timber roof with plenty of natural light from tall and narrow windows that have religious motifs. There is a mezzanine level with additional seating which was probably for poor (back in the day). Timber pews through out, one central pulpit, two towers for the church organ pipes, and red carpet throughout.

A good example of 19 century religious gothic architecture in New Zealand.

The church sits on a rise (Bell Hill) which gives a fair view of the buildings towards the harbour.

Worth a visit especially inside - 30 minutes stay maximum.

Nice Feel
Jul 2019 • Family
This is a Presbyterian masterpiece. Don't expect ostentation as the Presbyterian's reject all that. The church has a nice feel to it so it is worth the short walk from the Octagon. Maybe see it soon after the Anglican cathedral to contrast styles.
