About
A true icon of the South, we are the oldest continually operating Brewery in New Zealand, and the only site to have an historic Brew Floor and state of the art Brewery housed within the same location. After an extensive remodel in 2017 we are now excited to be able to offer a range of Tour packages to suit our diverse market - we can cater for groups of up to 40, as well as individual travelers and those wishing to experience a private tour. Our standard tours are approximately 45 minutes in duration, followed by up to 30 minutes tasting a range of beer and cider. The Speight’s Brewery is the spiritual home of New Zealand’s biggest beer brand, attracting over 25,000 visitors per year to experience the “Pride of the South”; as one if Dunedin’s most popular tourist attractions we are looking forward to welcoming you to our iconic experience. - Michelle C1 contributionGood On Ya Mate :)Very accomodating and knowledgeable staff. We had an excellent time and learnt quite a bit. Would highly recommend 10+ We were in a group of four so the experience was even better as we had plenty of time for questions and answers. It’s a “must do” if you’re in Dunedin. Plenty of merchandise to purchase and the tasting at the end of your tour just tops off your visit perfectly. You definitely get your money’s worth. - JohnChristchurch, New Zealand1 contributionVery enjoyableI have been drinking Speights for the past five years, and so I've always wanted to go see the brewery. Let's just say that it did not disappoint. I would recommend coming here if you ever want to learn the history of the man James Speights and the brewery.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 14 November 2023
- Judy SBradenton, Florida165 contributionsNew beers to tryIt was Sunday in Dunedin and not much going on, so the brewery tour was a nice option. It was nice that the group was fairly small (about 16) and they managed it well. The young lady giving the tour was quite knowledgeable and interesting. We had plenty of time to sample the variety of beers. Nice way to spend a couple of hours.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 November 2023

Enjoyed the story of the brewer's development and a beer tasting afterwards. Go down the hill to enjoy more beer and food afterwardsVisited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 January 2024

We had a wonderful and knowledgeable guide who told us the history of the brewery along with the processes and how they have changed. A fun and informative tour. Of course the beer tasting at then end was delightful!

We came in on Cruise ship which offered Speights Brewery & Otago Museum for $259.00 per person including lunch at the Speights pub. We decided to do this ourselves with Speights being a short walk from the shuttle drop off area. The tour was great, very informative and the taste testing even better with no limit on what you could task within the tasting period. We then headed to the pub for a very delicious lunch. The seafood chowder in particular was a winner. We didn't take in the Museum but our overall cost was less than NZD $170.00 all up which is a massive saving on the cruise excursion.
Guide was also great.

The team on site were exceptional. Great people. Entertaining tour.
We had let them know we were a bit late, someone gave us a catch up tour, until we reach the main group, while the person left in the shop asked if we knew to pay for parking...THEN PAID IT FOR US!!!!

Tessa was an amazing guide! Everything was well explained and the factory itself is very nice and clean. We could try 4+ beer at the end. 35 $ for what I got is very reasonable. Thank you 👐

Hi is there a minimum age to attend the tour.
Thanks

I don’t think so but there is a lot of stairs to go up and down. Some staircases are narrow and steep so caution is paramount. At the end of the tour samples of Speights beers are served to those who want a taste. I would be confident over 18 YO only for that. Hope this helps. You could e mail them for confirmation.
Hi, how much for the entry fee?

We are arriving on a cruise ship in Dunedin NZ. We would like to visit the Speight's Brewery and Cadbury Factory. How far are these attractions from each other? What is the best way to get from the cruise ship to these locations?

Hi There, The two are a 10 minute walk from each other. Shuttles bring cruise passengers in from Port Chalmers to the Octagon in the centre of Dunedin. Each of these attractions are a 5 minute easy walk from here. We certainly suggest you book as tours can fill up quickly. Cheers Speight's

No problem, the tour uses a lift to get to the top floor of the eight story building, then down through the various floors by stairs. If a wheel chair is required special arrangements can be made to go down by lift, but some stages will be ommitted.
