Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wonderful pool at the end of St Clair beach. Water was very clean as the pool had been emptied the day prior following a storm that brought a big surge of salt and seaweed. Temperature was not quite up to the usual 28 degrees but it was a sunny day, so pleasant enough. Great cafe alongside.

Great pool, fabulous setting. Excellent staff! Good cafe.
Would benefit from more hot showers.. and why isn't this open all year round? Much better than the Moana pool.
Be great if they would add a sauna and a cold sea plunge !

This pool has been a valuable feature of the Dunedin Beachfront for a long time. Various management options (including private) have been tried and failed. Some years ago there was a big public campaign to get the City to sort the issue. That has thank goodness happened and the facility is better than ever - despite the challenges of operating alongside the moods of the often not so Pacific Ocean. Visit in the summer season, (and it's heated) great changing, neat staff, cafe good too.
And then there is the view !!

A quirky setup - attracts a lot of people to the cafe due to the setting which is stunning on a summers day . Pool ok - mix of salt and Chlorine a bit yucky - I’ve swum competitively for 50 years and it was one of the worst tasting pools I’ve been in . Add the odd wave crashing over and it makes it a bit of fun .

Only went here for the cafe with views, but the cafe was so busy and they weren’t far from closing up by the looks, so didn’t get a seat with a view unfortunately.
She didn’t take our order properly and had to go back and order for the 4th person. My coffee was nice but the $8 smoothies were small/thin/runny.

Only after I arrived at the pool to discover it was closed for the season did I delve further than the google link. The Dunedin Council website shows the opening times across the year, not the google link. I was really looking forward to this visit, it was a bit of a drive from Christchurch, visited the Moana pool instead.

These are very, very good pools would definitely recommend especially with the young children area the main part and the swimming lanes but it is salt water but fortunately there is a water fountain so you can drink nor.al water if you get salt in you're mouth and if you don't have goggles or flippers you can borrow the ones they offer but if you want them come early because a lot of people use them.

The St Clair Hot Salt Water Pool is right on St Clair beach, only a short drive from the Dunedin city centre.
It is heated to about 28c and is clean and very well maintained. There is a smaller pool for little 'uns and the main pool has lanes for swimming laps plus plenty of room with floaty things if you feel like relaxing.
The admission price is very reasonable and there is a lovely cafe on site.
It's a great spot to get in the water if you don't feel like braving the surf which is a tad cooler! However, you can still hear the crash of the waves and smell the fresh salt air of the Pacific Ocean.
I went on a day that was quite cool so the pool wasn't crowded. If the weather had been hot and sunny, I would have stayed longer to sunbathe and swim again.

Visited this on tour. 10 minutes from city centre. Pool popular with kids and adults and is heated. It is at one end of a short esplanade which on the day had good well formed waves for surfing however the ride is short straight into concrete wall. Better waves just down the coast wet suit required as water about 10 degrees. Would I recommend a visit YES. Rated 7.5/10

We absolutely loved it. The water was a perfect temperature for swimming, and it is great to be able to swim outdoors, in fresh sea air. The views from the pool deck over the surf coming in to St Clair beach were the best. This should be rated as one of Dunedin's best summer attractions.

We will be staying in St Clair 25 + 26 December 2019. Will the pool be open on these days, and if so what time?
