Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our volunteer guide Brian was knowledgeable and friendly and provided a good background to the city of Christchurch as we walked. The weather was poor and intermittently raining and windy at times but Brian persisted with us and completed the tour so kudos to his commitment! Would recommend the tour. The 2-2.5 hour tour covers most common tourist sites and lesser known sites of the city. The $25 paid contributes towards the Arts Centre funds for ongoing restoration work which is great for us to be contributing to this cause.

We took the Walk Christchurch tour today and were lead by Milton, a kind retiree who was very knowledgeable about Christchurch and everything that happened here. If you are looking for a fast paced tour then the tram might be better, but if you want to take your time and really soak up the history of the city we would definitely recommend this tour!

PS: The tour is given by volunteers, the proceeds of this tour go towards the reparations of the damage of the earthquakes.

The walking tour of Christchurch was a fabulous way to gain an appreciation of the city and the thinking post the major earthquake in 2011. Craig was an excellent guide who was informative and able to highlight the changes from before the disaster until today. He kept the group moving and at the end of the tour we left with a better understanding of what Christchurch had experienced and the impact to the people. A highlight was the cardboard Cathedral and the
beauty of the words that accompanied the memorials.

Max was our guide and he was so knowledgable about the architecture of Christchurch as well as the experiences of the two earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. We learned so much about the city and its rebuilding efforts. Our walk was a little over two hours and we covered a variety of areas within the city center. Street art, pubs, the Avon River and green spaces were all part of the walk. I was especially thrilled at the end to find out that our fee went directly to the rebuilding efforts of the Art Centre where we started from. And thanks for the recommendation to the OGB, Max - we went there and it was great!

I did the 2.5 hour walking tour with John Hoskini, who
proofed to be a wonderfully insightful guide, who added a personal touch to the history and insights that he shared about his city. He also showed us some places that I would not have gone to alone / that werde not recommended in my quite extensive guidebook. Along the way we also stumbled upon some people who would on the spot delightedly share some of their own wisdom and stories (e.g. one of the priests at St. Michael and all Angles). John always made sure there was the time for us to enjoy these encounters, enriching the tour. Also, everybody seemed to know him from his various engagements and activities, which conveyed both, a feeling of him being very well connected to the whole community of Christchurch as well as Christchurch’s population being a small and close-knit community, which was quite nice and gave the tour quite an intimate insider feeling. This was added by the fact that there were just three of us on the tour.
The only downsides were that it took me (as a non-native speaker) a while to get used to his accent and he spoke quite muted, so that at times he was a bit hard to understand.
All in all: absolutely worth the time and money. Strong recommendation.

We booked this excellent walking tour as a spur of the moment thing ( very easy to do online). We were so pleased we did. We met our lovely local guide (Pauline) who was prompt, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about this vibrant city and the rebuilding programme after the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010/2011. We had visited this city many years before the particular earthquake that occurred on 22 February 2011, and wondered what we might find here. Going in to all districts of the city meant the tour lasted two and a half hours. However, Pauline made it very, very interesting and uplifting. She took us to places and provided information we just won’t have found out on our own.

Informative and interesting! Rae clearly knew her ‘stuff’ and was happy to answer lots of questions as we ambled through the central part of the city. Would highly recommend as way to orient yourself with the layout of the city and to identify places you want to explore further. Great that group restricted to a maximum of 10.

I flew into Christchurch and had a wait until my accommodations were available. I jumped onto the guided walking tour without doing much investigating of options and Toni, our tour guide did not disappoint! She volunteers to give the tours and loves her hometown very much as she was able to share many interesting experiences and stories about the city. The tour is fast paced and you will have to go back on your own if you want to linger with taking photos. It is a leisurely, easy walk and covers the city well. I was able to get grounded on the layout after the walk with her. I would recommend to do this tour first thing to get the layout as a helpful intro to the city. I was going to take the tram 50 min tour but the walk covers much of the same area.

We were 11th hour walk up's but not a problem. We still got a friendly welcome and were signed up with Max, who was a brilliant guide. Both knowledgeable and entertaining, and enabled us to see far more than just the obvious tourist locations by walking us into buildings we would not have dreamt of visiting if self-guided. An exceptional and memorable experience. I say all of this before adding that Max's wife (we discovered) is seriously ill in hospital but he still completed his guiding duties as if nothing was amiss. Thank you Max and we truly hope your wife pulls through.
