This was my 2nd wonderful week fly-fishing with Ben Haywood of Braided Rivers Fly Fishing Guides. We fished different water every day and had varied fishing. He is a very knowledgeable guide and provided excellent fishing equipment(rods,waders and flies). I learned a lot . We caught many browns and rainbows, varying from 4 to 7lbs. He was extremely attentive, helpful, good company and a pleasure to be with ! We stayed in comfortable self catering accommodation and ate in the local hotels,pubs and cafes. Daily lunch was included.
I have fished in New Zealand many times with different guides , but Ben's trips are special. I am booked again for my 3rd trip with Ben this December (2024).
Very good value for money.

Wow!
Two days with Ben Haywood, uber freshwater fisherman and guide, was a fabulous experience for my 12 year old son and myself.
Split between salmon fishing, caving and trout fishing we also experienced jet boat riding to the fishing grounds, camping out overnight, tracking down rivers and learning how to spot and catch trout. The vistas were breathtaking.
Ben is passionate about his natural wonderland in the South Island, a patient teacher who engages with and brings out the best in children and enhancing their first time experiences. And the conversation is lively.
Our father and son time with Ben was well spent.

If you are passionate about fishing for the biggest trout(not hyperbole)you’ll encounter on God’s green earth then Ben Haywood is the guide for you. You’d be hard pressed to find a more passionate, knowledgeable and patient guide than Ben.He got me on the rainbow trout of a lifetime. The good news is that the next time I’m in Christchurch with time tj fixh Ben will be my first call.

Ben was an awesome guide and person to go fishing during my honeymoon in NZ. He is a guide who is passionate about his work and his knowledge about the area and techniques was top notch. Everything was taken care of from start to finish. All high quality gear and tackle was supplied along with a great boxed lunch. Although we only had a few open spots due to the NZ fishing season not being fully opened at the time of our trip, Ben knew where all the best spots were for where we could fish for some giant Trout. Trout was caught up in excess of 10lbs. Bigger than what we would catch in Southern California by a mile. We will definitely hire Ben in our next visit to NZ. Thank you Ben for the great talks and a memorable fishing trip!

I booked the salmon fishing day trip - mainly for my husband....I did not expect to that I would love it so much too! We had an amazing day and Ben was so knowledgeable and friendly. I was worried as we hadn't done this kind of fishing before but Ben was patient and a very good teacher! We would do it all again i a heartbeat!

Thanks Ben for one of the best fishing trips of my life. Catching a rainbow trout was a bucket list item and you came through despite how rusty I was at fly fishing.

My husband and Neil just returned from our vacation in New Zealand. Neil states about Braided Rivers Fishing Guides - Day Trips "Was the highlight of my 3 week trip to New Zealand. Ben was there 20 minutes early to pick me up. It was a 45 minute drive to where we started fishing. Gorgeous scenery throughout fishing experience. We hiked into a gorge and fished in 3 different rivers. Fish were plentiful, caught several and had fun. Ben knew the hot spots and when fish were not biting on one fly, he knew what fly to switch to. He was very safety conscience, carried medical supplies and evac phone in case of emergency. Even this 70 year old fisherman could not have found a better fishing guide and partner anywhere." Neil

I have never fished with anyone who is able to spot fish better than my guide Ben Haywood. He put me on multiple large rainbows in only a half day fishing trip! It was a first class experience and a fly fishing trip of a lifetime. Thank you Ben!

My full day of fly fishing for rainbow trout with Ben Haywood was a dream fulfilled. I came with none of the required food and fishing equipment, but all was provided. Ben has superlative guiding skills as well as being incredibly patience and helpful. This allowed me to catch some large trout along one of his favorite streams. His guiding skills were made more difficult as I had balance and mobility problems from ankle osteoarthritis. His uncanny knack of spotting fish in the water, and telling you where to place the fly was very efficient in fishing long stretches of the stream. This was a fishing experience, partially captured on camera, that I will never forget,

Our day fly fishing for trout with Ben Haywood was absolutely wonderful. As novice fly fishers we were a little concerned we wouldn't be up to the task but with Ben's advice and assistance we soon felt comfortable and relaxed, and we were onto the fish in no time. Ben's knowledge of the river system was outstanding and his encouragement and expertise ensured we had a fun, exciting and thoroughly enjoyable day. Thanks to Ben, we can't wait to get back so he can take us salmon fishing. I would happily recommend Ben to anyone wanting to fish in NZ. You are guaranteed to have a memorable experience and a fantastic time.

Thank you for your inquiry into a guided fishing trip during your time in Christchurch. It would be a real pleasure to plan a tailored fishing trip for you and give you a small taste of the fantastic fishing we have in the South Island of New Zealand .
I specialist in sight fishing for large wild trout in the many pristine streams and rivers in the Canterbury High Country and west Coast regions using both fly and light spin tackle.
I charge $700 for a full days guided fishing trip for 1 angler. This price includes transportation,food and drink during the days fishing and the use of top quality fishing equipment. The only additional cost is for a fishing licence which cost $34 per day. I can assist with the purchase of these.
