A creative and effective memorial
Aug 2019
This eye-catching public memorial invites you to stop and take a moment, and have a seat, if you like. I didn't know what it was when I first saw it from afar, but it made me want to come closer, and then it made sense when I read the description.

Worth paying respects to the artistic creation and to remember the deceased
Jul 2020
Quite a somber experience.
Good to visit and remember. It brings home the devastation and allows one to remember the people who lost their lives on a normal day In Christchurch.
Clever and fitting artistic tribute.

Remembering the lost
Oct 2019 • Couples
The empty white chairs is an area full of empty white chairs representing all those who died in the recent earthquakes. Very somber if to be there in such a beautiful city and to think of the destruction that nature cane bring to the area.

Simple earthquake memorial but full of meaning.

Very special place
May 2020 • Family
A place to pause for a while and look around at all the different chairs each chosen to represent a life lost. The high chairs and baby seat are the saddest.

Poignant reminder
Mar 2020 • Couples
This was a very poignant reminder of the earthquake tragedy and we were amazed that it is safe from vandalism for people to see the stark white chairs as a memorial

Memorial

The empty chairs represent those that perished during the earthquake. It is a very sad and somber area, especially when you see the chairs that belonged to infants.

Simple, Poignant and sad
Mar 2020
185 white chairs to symbolise the 185 people who died including a baby bouncer. It is literally at the side of the road, but very poignant and simply done.

Very emotional
Mar 2020
Just seeing all the chairs is a reminder of how many people lost their lives in the 2011 earthquake. Very emotion I though.
