Was interested to see these chairs after the publicity. Very sad to view as they represent lost lives in the earthquake. I thought the area was quite untidy. Centrally located

I hope this memorial becomes permanent - even if it is moved to another site. We found it very moving.

This eye-catching public memorial invites you to stop and take a moment, and have a seat, if you like. I didn't know what it was when I first saw it from afar, but it made me want to come closer, and then it made sense when I read the description.

Quite a somber experience.
Good to visit and remember. It brings home the devastation and allows one to remember the people who lost their lives on a normal day In Christchurch.
Clever and fitting artistic tribute.

The empty white chairs is an area full of empty white chairs representing all those who died in the recent earthquakes. Very somber if to be there in such a beautiful city and to think of the destruction that nature cane bring to the area.
Simple earthquake memorial but full of meaning.

A place to pause for a while and look around at all the different chairs each chosen to represent a life lost. The high chairs and baby seat are the saddest.

185 Empty Chairs is a temporary Memorial to all people who died during an earthquake in 2010/11. Sad remembrance place.
