If your touring NZ, it's worth spending the Saturday here.

Fresh local produce and local produced goods.

There are lots of fruit, baked breads, alcohol, and street food.

Lots to choose from. Reasonably priced, but not too cheap either. Parking isn't good. You might have to walk a bit.

First time here and a great market with a lot of stalls. Lovely setting by the river and the historic Riccarton House. Wonderful products from dog treats, cheese, flowers, porridge to vegan goods.

Held in the pretty setting of Riccardo House there is so much nosh available that it boggles the tastebuds. Cheeses were amazing. Check out the small patch of predator-free bush behind the cottage, its the last stand of kahikatea floodplain forest in Canterbury and are juveniles at a mere 30 m and age between 300 to 600 years

As farmers markets go, this is not a very big one, but there are enough stalls with fresh, delicious foods and foodstuffs to make this a fun (and full!) morning outing. The sellers are friendly and more than happy to share info about their products. It is also in a pretty garden, perfect for an immediate picnic.

This place is brilliant. The setting is wonderful in the park like grounds of the house, but parking can be a bit tricky. But it is worth it for the huge mixture of stalls selling everything from meats to coffee, cake to honey, chocolate to cordial. It is all about small producers selling good honest fayre. Plenty of places to buy food or snacks, coffee, or just give many of the edible items a go.
Brilliant, and definitely a place I'll be revisiting.

The Christchurch Farmers' Market is located in Riccarton (16 Kahu St) and runs every Saturday from 9am-2pm. It's a great place to start the weekend and stock up for your trip / the week - you'll find loads of fresh produce, locally-farmed meats, hand-prepared salamis, pastries, pies, wine, and juices for sale here. Everyone is generally pleasant here - have a chat with locals hawking their wares or doing the weekly grocery run. Like most other markets, samples are available for a lot of stuff, and it's all good!

Don't bother having breakfast before coming - there's loads of cooked food to try. I personally recommend the Hungarian Bratwurst (around the middle of the market), and for those who prefer a sit-down sort of affair, there're tables and chairs around the back of the market with an amazing coffee stand as well as bacon and eggs available for order. Spend the morning feeding the ducks in the stream nearby (or not), or help a young busker earn a new violin. Professional buskers play at the front and back of the market, contributing to the lively atmosphere of the Riccarton Market.

Tip: Parking is extremely limited so come early to get a lot. Otherwise, waiting around generally does the trick as the turnover rate seems pretty high. Expect to while 2 hours away before you notice it ;)

This market is exceedingly popular with locals, though there were a fair few tourists as well. Parking is limited, so do go early. We found parking on Rimu street, a block away from Riccarton House.

There are many stalls selling fresh produce as well as baked goods, preserves and yummy breakfast items like pork burgers, bratwurst, grilled mussels. Buying a coffee took a 30minute wait because of the crowd.

I´m addited to Farmers Markets as it is always the best way to get in touch with local products and the producers. We had the chance to visit this nice market in Christchurch in a beautiful park area. It you have the chance, take some time, stroll around, taste this and that and enjoy the atmosphere. As we were travelling with a camper van, this was a good way to fill our fridge. We have olives, great cheese, Manuka Honey and fresh juice. And we shared dumplings, a Bacon Bros deluxe sandwich and waffles. Awesome place really worth a visit (takes place every Saturday).
