It's been years since the earthquake but the area remains a construction zone. What makes it disappointing though is that the newer aspects have no style or design features.

And out of the ashes new regrowth can be seen. Another representation of the town coming back. Certainly far from finished, but there is great new popular stores coming back into the CBD, and in smart new designed buildings.

There isn’t much to see along this street as so much was damaged during the earthquakes. This bears no resemblance to any other ‘high street’ you’ll see.

Half of it is still a construction zone and I couldn't see many shops, however, a bunch of trendy bars are situated on or around the street. Clearly not enough of them because they're packed every night of the week. So it can be a bit of a hassle looking for space but if you're after somewhere interesting to eat and drink, come on down.

We took a walk along High Street to start our HOP ON HOP OF TRAM TOUR and noticed there ware a new shops opened like TRENERY, WITCHERY, MECCA MAXIMA & H&M, the street is getting its charm back slowly, it has still a long way to go.

This street was badly broken by the earthquake and there are a number of buildings being demolished. However this street shows the attitude of Christchurch, The rebuilding efforts are in full swing and this is a pleasing aspect of a visit to this street.

There is still a lot to be (re)build in Christchurch and this streets is one of the examples. Apparently it took 5 years to decide where to go and now they are re-building in a fast pace the new city.

Time to update this listing. Half of High St is still fenced off awaiting decisions by owners and Insurers - appalling state of affairs.
Luckily a few new projects are starting at the eastern end of High St, within the innovation precinct, so by the end of 2016 we might see some life here, but not the quaint, slightly seedy "student" vibe it had before.

We were here just a month or so after earthquakes and it was devastating to see the damage this beautiful city had, but local spirit was amazing, friendly and so happy to give you any info/history etc. The pubs were class but the irish bar as expected was memorable from the hospitality to the divine cuisine we devoured. Fantastic city and 1 to most def return to.

Very badly damaged in earthquakes, but some buildings are still there in a ruined condition. No access allowed at present.
