Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Wizard ( and his apprentice Ari ) can be found in the winter often in Christchurch, as well as in Omaru on North Otago. If you come across either Wizards, ask if you can sit down a spell and have a conversation. The Wizard is well spoken and quick-witted, with a great sense of humor.

We saw the Wizard 13 years ago when he lectured in front of the Christchurch Cathedral. He had a VW Beetle that was "chopped" and made to look like it had 2 front ends.

We returned this past week and since the earthquake he no longer had a "podium" .
He does wander around and talks to anyone who will listen. We saw him on Regent Street. He has aged a lot and is now quite bitter gainst City Council since they no longer support him. Really it was a rather sad sight.

The popular Wizard is mostly found in New Regent Street, Christchurch, most days from late morning. His tall pointed wizard cap is a giveaway. Also look out for the junior wizard, or the Wizard's apprentice. New Regent Street is on the city tram line.

We were on board the tram as tourists when the Wizard and an entourage suddenly stepped on as well. He was with three other quite young wizards who he said were in training.Fascinating to see such a quirky character on a tram! He is well regarded by those who know of him although he seemed very quaint to me and seemed a little frightening to the poor little toddler who sat not far from this very elderly man- she did not know how to take this bearded gentle character dressed in long flowing black cape and wearing a pointed black hat.He was of course very benign although the look on her little face was priceless and despite assurances from her mum she still was not sure how to take this unique character! A truly fascinating character in Christchurch.

Heard Ian speak at opening of 2012 Film Festival. Knowledgeable and articulate and well into his post-prime, it was great to hear him talk about his early years promoting film in Perth. Visitors cannot 'go to hear' him speak, as he is retired and attends various functions sporadically, but he's worth listening to. You may not always agree with his views, but he has catalysed many a public discussion over the decades (now some years since his lunchtime debates with public speakers like Ray Comfort) and his voice adds something to the fabric of public discourse.

The wizard used to be a tour de force in Christchurch. he then had some controversial years, seemed out of step with the community and sensibly retired. The recent earthquakes have seen him return to the fray but without I think a real sense of what the real people of CHCH want. His championship of things like saving the small Cathedral is not what people want for their future...seems just a new soapbox to speak from but mostly no one's listening.

He's average, doing his thing, having his say. A good character for a laugh.
