We had a few hours to burn at Christchurch airport and decided to visit Yaldhurst Museum of Transport and Science. Easy to find (with a large sign off the roundabout in Yaldhurst) we were welcomed and charged a very reasonable entry fee. A visit to the cafe was the first order of business and were pleasantly surprised with the good coffee and snacks. The museum consist of a number of buildings each with its own theme. The cars were the draw card for me and it was great to see a cool selection of classic cars. The farm machinery was interesting as was the small selection of military vehicles. Really enjoyable if you have a few hours to burn in Christchurch!

The collection of cars is very interesting, but they are not well maintained, or not maintained at all. Those outdoor exhibits are quite worn out, which is a pity.

I loved this museum for it's take on New Zealand's history. Some exhibits are indoors and look like they have been well used, which gives them a more historical feel. The outdoor exhibits are deteriorating and as you look at them you feel like an Urban Explorer getting inside a derelict building. Looking through the often broken windows of the vehicles you can see the decay and rust of the interiors and if you touched them they could crumble so easily.

I would like to see a bigger gap between the exhibits, but apart from this it is a fascinating place to visit.

Tons of cool vehicles, and unlike most places there are quite a few that you can climb on and play around with. They also have a bunch of other things there like print machines and wagons, as well as a cafe attached with coffee and treats. Definitely worth a look and a great option if staying near the airport.

My family throughly enjoyed the variety and atmosphere on offer at the Yaldhurst Transport Museum. Not only was there a fascinating mix of cars, trucks and fire engines on display but also a fabulous room of printing equipment, typewriters, old computers which was an added bonus. We finished with a lovely leisurely lunch from Antler Cafe and soaked up the sun in the garden area where the kids happily played for quite some time in the adjacent playground. The kids loved completing the complimentary quiz on offer as they went around too! The staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a place I’d love to revisit.

Love the range of exhibits - cars computers, print press, old machines - from days gone by, particularly the horse drawn carriage room. And, the period cafe with great coffee and food.

Lots of junk lying around, some old cars and fire engines, thrown randomly in some sheds. Embarrassed show overseas visitors around and having to pay $20 per person.

We are sorry you did not find our museum interesting, we have hundreds of items spanning 200 + years of transportation laid out in 4 specific buildings not " thrown randomly in some sheds ". Again we are sorry you did not enjoy you visit.
