Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hagley Park is located in the heart of Christchurch. Included in its boundaries are a golf course and a cricket ground, public tennis courts, walking and cycle tracks, and the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Canterbury Museum also borders on the property. Notable water features include Victoria Lake, Albert Lake, and the Avon River. Several bridges cross the river, connecting various parts of the park. When we were there, people paddled by in kayaks and canoes. The park is a common site for large gatherings such as open-air concerts. We were told that is was also a place where people gathered during the most recent earthquake.

Hagley Park is a stunning botanical park located near the cbd and was created by the founders of the city and given as a gift to the future citizens. It is full of an amazing collection of plants and trees. The Avon river meanders through the park. A relaxing and tranquil place to visit. A must if you come to Christchurch.

We walked 5hrough the park after breakfast, into the Botanic Gardens for coffee and then back through Hagley to our motel. We walked 18kms around Christchurch and found Hagley so peaceful with beautiful gardens, friendly locals running, walking and cycling. Lovely to have this park in the city centre.

This place is big, in four days I didn't even get to see all of it, I wonder if I even drove all the way around it. It's a peaceful piece of green in the middle of the city, wide open space and includes a botanical garden. It's worth a walk through even to take a shortcut through the city.

The botanical gardens and Hagley Park are enjoyable places to walk around, even if you are not a botanist. There are a huge variety of flowering and non flowering plants and trees, both native to New Zealand and "imported" by the British. There is no rush and no need to "see everything". We spent a couple of hours, including sitting around doing"nothing" before moving on. It can be combined with punting on the River Avon which is close by

As walked from Cathedral Junction to North Hagley Park by foot (15 min), it seemed that there were a lot of people heading to one place for Christchurch.
I realized that Hagley Park and Botanic Garden is one of best place to visit in this city.
Area is good for big event esp Firework.
Good experience to watch Firework for Countdown Event.

Hagley Park is huge, divided into a Northern and a Southern section. Beautiful old trees everywhere, small lakes and ponds, and all this right in the city.
Actually Hagley Park is a kind of divide of Christchurchs inner city.
There's runners, golfers and various cycle paths criss-crossing the park.

Great open spaces, flat, mature trees from many years standing, well used - always a good sign. However. Be aware it is also a public golf course - it's actually quite dangerous if you have a group of (reckless) young men teeing off and smashing balls towards you at a great speed, and laughing outrageously out aloud. The eastern side of the park is safer for one's perumbulations. There is a large cafe and access to the Botanical Gardens. Parking here as well although we obsesrved it generally full.

This is one of the largest parks in the world and is larger than London’s Hyde Park but smaller than New York’s Central Park. It hosts a variety of features from botanical gardens, public golf course, international cricket venue to open spaces for families and people who want to exercise.
Each Saturday morning, it hosts the local parkrun and it is an excellent event. It is very inclusive and is open to everyone regardless of ability.

Hi we are in Christchurch for New Year. Can you advise what is happening in the Park please. Will there be food and drink available, what time do the festivities start, can we bring a picnic? Thank you Jean McVeigh

Sorry but I don’t live there . You can probably get your answer via google. Remember it is the middle of summer at Christmas so you will have different opportunities. Enjoy your visit
