I love the inventiveness of the human race when it comes to overcoming adversity. The shipping container shops are a positive sight in a city which can only be described as quite depressing from an outsider. Walking around the red zone was one of the...More

Great atmosphere. Lots of food stalls and great shopping. We had a Fritz's weiner and it was very tasty. Get the sauerkraut! Ballantynes is expensive but has a nice atmosphere and lots t look at.

Great to see resilient Cantabrians making the most of an horrendous situation. Ingenuity and style combine in container shops to bring the heart back into the city.

A piece of the future in a place devastated by the past. A growing group of shops set up in 20 & 40ft containers. Only complaint is they were the high end shops but I supose thats normal for city shops anyway.

The colour and vibrancy of this location is a really nice focal point for a city that has a massive rebuilding task ahead of it. A good variety of shops that all do a great job of presenting themselves, as well as some very nice...More

Creative, civic thinking at it's best, a portion of Cashel Street reopened to the public in 2011 after post-quake chaos and loss of life. Ballentynes, probably the city's most loved department store, has stood it's ground in the CBD and revamped and reopened. The pop-up...More
