A challenge to nature and the people of Canterbury, a great little shopping oasis and all credit to the creators and defiant merchants back in the heart of the city !!! Bravo !!!

Wonderful colourful, respectful and fun place to visit. Great shops and cafes and atmosphere. Amazing to view the goings on in central Christchurch post earthquake also. Felt quite surreal and healing to visit. Awesome way to draw people back to city. Loved the sculptured animal plants :-)

What a difference post earthquake. most of the shops we had previously visited are gone. In its place a container mall - what a brilliant idea but it needs to be extended to incorporate more 'everyday' shopping.

The unique temporary Container Mall in Cashel Street demonstrates a way to stimulate business & interest in a devastated C.B.D.

The new mall is really vibrant, shows real character in the face of all that's happened. I hope they keep it beyond the rebuild.

good effort of using temporary construction means to revive inner city amidst earthquake damage, could give rise to new typology.

Poor Cashel Street, this street looks as though it was nearly almost destroyed but due to the determination of the business people it is back on its feet again & we really enjoyed this new contemporary container shopping centre, very bright & the flowers everywhere made it welcoming. Lots of people were making the most of the situation & it... More

A number of shops and F&B outlets have moved to the "Re:Start Area" operating out of modded transport containers. The place is colorful and vibrant though fairly small. There are lots of nice shops for tourists and a few stalls for cheap tasty eats. Definitely a must visit if you want to bring goodies back from your trip.

We are Cantabrians who currently live and work overseas. We hadn't been home since the earthquakes and were not looking forward to seeing the damage. Yes, we were shocked, and deeply saddened by what we saw, but Cashel Street Mall in the centre of town, was a great inspiration. It contains creatively painted shipping containers that have been turned into... More
