Great night, the accoustics were great to listen to the rock and roll of the greatest band in history. The seating was not the best, just 25mm to narrow to sit for long periods and there is marked shortage of toilets especially when the bar is serving drinks and the mad rush at the interval begins. Apart from that it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and it will not stop me going to other concerts.

What a treat to have seen Joe Bonamassa at the Town Hall. This venue is superb, the acoustics are second to none, great to have an artist that did not mind photo's or dancing. Staff at the Town Hall very good will be back fro sure.

My partner and I went to the Jo Bonamasa Concert last night at the refurbished town hall. As it was a rush to get from work to town, we decided to eat at the town hall. Was very disappointed to find only bar snacks available when the website showed a decent menu, although the club sandwich was delightful but no napkins available and was given paper towel from the dispenser. Furthermore only getting plastic cups for drinks ? I can understand that in the foyer area where people may take their drinks into the auditorium, but plastic cups in the upstairs bar area as well ?
I found the seats were really hard and not comfortable to sit on. It was an uncomfortable experience. Jo Bonamasa and the band were just brilliant. It's a shame that they were let down by the venue, as I was looking forward to enjoying the concert.

After so long without our Town Hall, after the earthquakes, it really did feel good to be back in the Town Hall Auditorium again! The show CATS, was disappointing and not nearly good as other performances of it, which we have seen overseas, but the venue is great. They have done a good job of the rebuild. We look forward to more concerts and shows there in the future.
We got an email before the event telling us that only small bags are allowed and there will be bag checks at the entrance, but we didn't see any bags being checked at all.

Our family have attended 3 concerts in the newly refurbished Town Hall since 3 March...and have a few more booked. Seeing Marlon Williams perform was outstanding...one of best concerts we've been to....however the tight seating plan and lack of room to move on the floor was so annoying. This alone can affect your whole enjoyment level of the concert. Sadly it has. There was an opportunity to get this right and it has been over ridden by the desire to squeeze more rows of seats in. Once in your seat you are 'locked' in and it was somewhat awkward when at 'half time' someone in the middle of the row wanted to get out so the whole row had to exit in to the aisle to let them out...and again when they wanted back in. The main auditorium has lovely acoustics but it has been let down by very tight seating. Cannot imagine what it would be like if you needed to exit in a hurry.

Also noted that there are a lot of toilets in the 'womens' which is great but the floor was very wet around the hand basins from the multitude of 'drops' of water from washing your hands en route to the hand dryer. Quite slippery.

We were also advised that now you can only take a handbag in that is smaller than 30 x 30 cm...which is probably most but just need to be aware.

Going into this building it was nothing special - but just like the tardis on doctor who tv programme it was quite expansive inside. The main auditorium is impressive and has great acoustics.

Saw Rob Brydon in the theatre. Long queues for drinks which made it difficult to navigate around foyer. Poor signage to find correct entry point to theatre. Only one guy scanning tickets creating a bottleneck of people trying to get into theatre. Strange arrangement of seating meant I my seat wasn't facing stage but facing back of auditorium which meant my head was turned to the right to see the stage for the two hour show giving me neck ache.
They had an opportunity to get this rebuild so right but missed it.

The Town Hall is back in business and looks EXACTLY as it ever did. All the Pat Hanly murals are back in place and the 1970's architecture and decorative motif's are all repaired and refurbished. So lovely to see it all again after such a long restoration.
This 1970's dream is well worth visiting whether you are a local coming to greet an old friend and significant Christchurch Building or a visitor.

What a joy to return to the Town Hall for Martin Setchell's inaugural concert on the restored Rieger Pipe Organ. The venue has been marvelously restored, so congratulations to all those involved - you've done the city proud. Oh, and the concert was superb! Well done, Martin!

On our return trip to Darwin we spent a day just looking around Christchurch and finished off in the city. Even after so many years the earthquake damage scars the cityscape. But it’s good to see the progress since our last trip across the ditch. The performing arts centre is due to open gradually beginning in February 2019 and fully operational by March. They are promoting upcoming events now so check out what you might like to see before heading there.
