I would "generally" describe this gallery as one of modern art, but yes I was quite glad to also find a "pretty fair number" of big traditional-styled paintings (since I just don't have much of an eye, so to speak, for modern art); the "most...More

The building itself qualifies as a work of art, but when you step inside you’ll find lots more to delight you. Although not a huge gallery, the works on display during my visit were interesting, varied and inspirational- I was even able to make a...More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the art gallery. Being a larger group we were able to book our own separate morning tour. Our tour guide was excellent, and provided a very interesting and enjoyable tour of some of the current exhibitions. I have always...More

Large space which is under utilised. Not a lot of art, mostly empty spaces and walls. Worth popping into if you have a spare 20 minutes. You would be hard pushed to spend more than an hour here.

There is a lot to see here, both inside and outside the building. Don't miss the sculpture on the roof! There are several temporary exhibits as well as the permanent collection to enjoy.

We had wanted to visit for some time and were not disappointed. There were several contemporary exhibitions which were not permanent but worth seeing for the comparison. The upstairs exhibitions (there is a lift) depicted Maori culture and also the Land Girls from WW2. We...More

The building is brilliant, amazing, beautiful. The interior is large, but not as much artwork as we expected, possibly a bit sparse, interesting works, great children's room, very helpful personnel.

The design of the building is interesting, but the galleries have lots of space and not many pictures. Lots of photographs instead of paintings. But the information on the walls about the artists was very good

A gallery with a wide range of exhibitions. Well worth a visit for a couple of hours as there is plenty to see and we enjoyed the variety.

The exhibits at the moment are a nice combination of gallery, with some challenging modern works, and museum, with some older representational works. The latter particularly appealed to us - ten older pieces with explanatory boards covering not only the art works themselves but also...More

The Art Gallery has a lift for people in wheelchairs or using mobility aids. It also has a ramp for access as well as the stairs. There are several accessible toilets on both levels.
