Good opportunity to see a cross section of mainly modern contemporary art. Depending upon your taste for art it does not necessarily please everyone.

I really enjoyed this gallery. The exhibits were interactive, modern and engaging. The building itself is very spacious, modern and interesting as well.

helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The building is wonderful and the artwork will please all from traditional to modern styles. we visited in November and had a lovely surprise when we came across a group of ladies making lace in one of the rooms.

What an incredible building....all glass and steel with interesting sculptures on the exterior. Loved the bull on the piano and the free form moving sculptures at the entrance. Do not miss the hand on the roof. The interior is a mix of modern and old....some eclectic work with light and sound....photographic exhibits and more permanent work on the second floor.... More

After being shut down for a long time due to the earthquake the Art gallery reopen in 2015 , I believe. I hadn't been there since before that. So it was nice to go back and see all the changes and new exhibit. The most interesting exhibit is the interactive energy one. That works off the energy from your hand.... More

I was introduced to some very talented NZ artists and I was very impressed. I loved the themed presentations, e.g., Hair, one on architecture from the ground up, another on Os in a number... More

Fabulous building, looks great after the earthquake restoration. The exhibitions were of mixed quality and nothing really stood out for me. I quite enjoyed the bad hair collection, especially the kids work cards which were a great idea. The shop is limited and overpriced and there is no cafe. There are some works by a few famous European artists hidden... More
