While in Christchurch recently, I went to the Gallery to catch up and to see that it was still "OK" . and not hurt in the quakes.... It is still the stunning building that I remember - with helpful staff, and varied exhibitions.

I've hardly ever enjoyed going around an art gallery more than this one in Christchurch. Absolutely perfect size for the city. As far as I'm concerned every room and gallery was perfectly curated. Equal importance given to historic local artists and contemporary art. I visited...More

The building flatters to deceive! From the outside you have to believe that the content will be more impressive than it actually is - the exhibitions are actually quite limited in scope and content. The Cow made of metal cans was a notable highlight!

The Art Gallery is along The Christchurch Tram route. It is a modern building and houses old and modern art. We spent about an hour there and entry is free.

huge building, lot of money invested for...what could be gathered at the I site, or in the Museum. Can't see interest of such a huge investment while so many other very interesting sites already available.

Good museum to visit. Contemporary art, indigenous art, older more traditional art, and photographic displays. Free admission and free WiFi.

Set inside a modernistic building with massive glass facade and a cool quiet interior, the gallery is simply beautiful in its layout and displays. There are both modern and contemporary and New Zealand artists on display. There are plenty of places to rest in case...More

This is a free art museum in Christchurch, and it's well worth the time. I happened to have a very rainy day during my visit and so this was a good opportunity to visit this lovely museum. My favorite was the Dutch Funeral, gorgeous painting....More
