This is a lovely building with free entry. It has, mainly, quite modern exhibits. Personally, I saw little value in most of them. That said there were some that I could appreciate. One unusual exhibit is a projection of some mountain landscape and by standing in a circle and moving your arms / hands (a bit like superman) it enabled... More

To me, the best thing was the building itself, which is beautiful. There are some interesting exhibits, but there was a heavy emphasis on photography when I was there, which isn't an interest of mine. Even so, you can easily get through everything in an hour or two, and it's worth the time.

This is a beautiful building with, obviously, lots of art, but also has very interesting exhibitions. Check to see what is currently showing.

It was so lovely to walk back into the Gallery and check out some of the exhibitions. Pleased to see the gorgeous gift shop is still operating. Looking forward to the adjacent Restaurant opening up soon.

This building has an interesting exterior wave shape and internal stairways, crossways. The main atrium currently has a bunch of cafe chairs and tables hanging from the ceiling! Wasn't impressed with the artwork in the galleries - not as interesting as the building!

The Art Gallery had some great exhibitions when we visited and a real diversity that was exciting. The lift is a work of art itself - it's all spangly and crystally inside! We loved the art work from the 1930s and 40s and 50s - especially the women at work section; the seal breathing in an ice hole (less sure... More

We enjoyed the Big Hair Day and Beasts exhibits. They also male it children friendly with the cards of different art works that provoke thought and challenge the young ones.

It is great to see that this is a newly built and fully functioning entity in the general devastation of Christchurch. It shows how important the arts are to this city and gives "heart" amid the wreckage.

The Christchurch Art Gallery is a new modern art gallery. I really liked the design inside and outside. The exhibitions on offering in February 2017 were not that great for me. Others may get more out of them but it still worth a visit.

Besides this is a very beautiful building, it takes you closer to the local modern art scene displaying pieces of high quality that help you to get closer to the local culture and political perspective.
