We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited Re:Start on a family holiday and found it very interesting!! Lots of shipping containers turned into little boutique shops and food stalls. Great concept and very visually appealing!!

Wandered into this area to hunt for some decent street food. Live music on offer that isn't too intrusive with growing choice. Like the offer of independent shops inbetween the shopping centre too. Worth a look-see as there's lots on offer.

My wife and I like going for a walk around the Re:START mall as part of a wider walk around the centre of the city. The innovative use of containers post earthquake is architecturally interesting and very colourful.

There's heaps of food options, lots of seating, plenty of unique and quirky shops, cafes, etc. Even table tennis and art installations (see my photos).

Well worth

We've been visiting a mouse called bean since we first arrived to nz a little over a year ago. The container mall is great, but now we live central in town, we come for the coffee. Consistently perfect short blacks. Thank you for all the coffee and the best of luck in your new location

Bought some small souvenirs-be sure to look around as prices vary for the same items in different shops. Enjoyed fresh fruit juices and lunch choices.

I think this mall built with shipping containers will be here to stay as a reminder of the perseverance and ingenuity of the people of ChCh but also because it’s a really funky gathering place. After walking around much of ChCh and feeling really impacted by the continued signs of devastation, it was refreshing and a huge relief to walk into the mall and find so much life going on. Cleverly done and brightened up with painted picnic tables, sculptures and fun food caravans. Great space! –

This mall is a great idea using the shipping containers. The mall though is quite small and there aren't very many shops.

The are a few eateries and a couple of coffee places. It is one of the places worth checking out in downtown Christchurch.

The shops are unique. Love the food stalls too. The sculptures in the area are pretty. Small place but with lots of characters. Worth a visit.

I had heard of a market in shipping containers but I had no idea how well done this was until I wandered through. There is even a BNZ and Post Office in a shipping container!!!

We chose to eat at Hummingbird's Cafe and were very impressed.

I was dying to get into the souvenir shops and little gift shops but hubby was not at all keen on Day 1 of our trip to "shop" with me with him on tow!

I heard a rumour that this was only temporary until the new shops were built, which I thought was kinda sad as it is such a quirky place and nothing like I have ever seen or experienced!

I do hope they can move it or feature it somewhere in the city on a permanent basis.

Thanks for your review - sounds like you had a lovely time here! Perhaps you visited Cozy Café (as Hummingbird café here closed in April 2016 and the containers were removed at the time)? Yes, you're right - Re:START was only ever designed as a temporary trading space post-earthquake (and only for 1 year max). It's lasted 5.5 years and we close at the end of April to make way for permanent buildings.
