So much to see. We spent half the day here. Started with breakfast at the Café and then wondered around the gardens. Rose gardens, beautiful pathways, something that looked like a beautiful swamp and an enclosure that had little waterfalls were just some of the things we saw.

The old trees were just magnificent, and all labelled. The canal winds it self around as well. Well worth spending several hours here if you have the time

We had been driving a lot the day before so we needed to stretch our legs and this was a gem of a spot to do that. I think it's the best botanical gardens in New Zealand.

You can park on the west side of the gardens for free & it is a short walk through to the city. Make sure you go into where the orchids are, they are stunning.

What a beautiful collection of mature plants and trees. This botanic garden is worth several hours of your time, but even a brief stroll is very satisfying. The Avon River, complete with punting, meanders through the gardens. The trees are enormous, especially the eucalyptus, flowers plentiful, and shrubbery impressive. Loved the heathers, heaths, and gorses. We had a lovely lunch... More

The park is free, and a great place to walk on a pleasant day. Very large park, right downtown. Popular with the locals.

The gardens are full of all sorts of flora from New Zealand. A botanist would have a ball. As for me, I just enjoyed strolling among the vegetation, the like of which I have not seen at home

An amazing range of flora with highlights any time of year. From early spring right through to autumn there is a vast array of magnificent flowers and trees. A huge space you can explore in sections or all at once if you have a couple of hours.

We headed straight for the cafe in the heart of the Botanical gardens. It was a tall building and unlike the cafe that was there in former years (which is now an Art Gallery). I had a bagel, which was heated, and an orange juice. There was a lot of choice including things in the cabinet that looked fresh. I... More

Take an hour or take a full day. Whether your are a botanist or an urban junkie. There is something majestic about a walk around these gardens. If you come from Australia or the warmer parts of USA, Europe, you just don't get to see these Autumn colours, and trees older than Australian settlement. Beautiful. Go for a jog, Brisk... More
