Really lovely gardens with so much to see, from the conservatory to the rose garden to the open green spaces. We went twice during our trip because it was so pleasant to walk through. I felt like I was in Hyde Park!

Don't visit this city without making time for a walk through the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Situated right in the heart of the city, straddling the banks of the Avon River this is a Botanic paradise even for those not particularly interested in things floral or horticultural. Afterwards, take a punt down the river or hire a canoe or rowing boat... More

Take a picnic and find a spot to relax and read a book on the archery lawn. Or walk the entire gardens all day. Ring the Peace Bell, play in the playground, climb the tree by the Rose Garden, smell the roses, explore Cuningham Hot House, visit the Ilex Café, walk through the native bush area and lots more. Beautiful amd well-maintained botanical gardens. There are things to do for everyone. Can get lost easily but Google Maps can differentiate all the walking paths within the complex.

Chainlink fences bar entry, behind the fences, buildings with roofs caving in and signs scattered through neighborhoods indicating they were up for auction and... More

These gardens have been well developed in the area behind the Museum. It was a bleak day when we walked through, but even then there was a lot to admire in the layout of the grounds. It would be really great in Summer.
