My partner and I really enjoyed visiting the Air Force Museum over the weekend. Very interesting and loved looking at all the planes. The only downside to our visit was the amount of kids running around, screaming, not actually taking any notice of displays whilst parents sat down on their cell phones at the cafe. Of this should be a... More

Large and clean collection but also a few photo spots and walk through experiences, medals, reports, what you'd expect. Think there is tours during the day, but for free/donation entry can't complain at all.

Visited on the last day of our recent trip and thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was our intention to only stay a couple of hours but there was so much to see we ended up staying for 5 hours. (We could easily have stayed longer but had to get to the airport.) The behind the scenes tour was very informative... More

Interesting collection especially since it felt like most of the museums were dedicated to actions in the first world war instead of any other deployments which this one does detail (primarily since there wasn't an air force in world war I).

What an amazing exhibition with really beautifully restored planes on display and a cockpit for children to play in. A lot of walking involved but the lunch at the cafe afterwards and a quick stop in the gift shop more than made up for it. On the way to the the airport, and well sign posted, it is an easy... More

Great little gem. We went on a rainy day so probably a little busier than usual. Lots of artefacts and stories. Former Air Force personnel as volunteers make the museum very surreal. Free tours. Great for kids too, as we were leaving a little boys birthday party was just starting and I was quite jealous. Would recommend.

If you are at all interested in planes or war history, this is a must-do. Try to take the (free) tour if you can --the guides are very knowledgeable and you get to go into some areas with otherwise restricted access. Gorgeous facility, really well-done documentation and a nice collection of planes. Especially liked the emphasis on individual stories that... More

A family favourite (we live in Chch). The current "Captured" exhibit is very good and the kids love sitting in the cockpits of some of the exhibits.

This is a marvellous place if you are at all interested in airoplanes. Enthusiastic people are restoring old planes, but not to flying condition. Plan to spend at least 3 hours. Admission is free now!

The Airforce Museum is a must for every visitor to South Island, New Zealand. I stood in awe wondering how on earth the exhibition managers managed to get the exhibits in place. It will take some beating. Well done. Can't wait to visit again. I will be coming back to Hornby from Nottingham, England, very soon. I must buy one... More
