I was invited to a childs birthday party at the Air Force Museum. The children got into overalls and had dog tags, we went behind the scenes and the kids got to jump out of a plane and throw some water bombs. They had a great time, and we ended up having food there as well. It was very interesting... More

The museum is free to enter but offers a wealth of things to see and do. It is easy to get around and there is ample parking. Staff members were very helpful and friendly.

On the site donated by henry wigram, a long history of airforce. Was a big loss when the govt sold the airfield to infill with housing, this small museum all that is left, worth a small visit wont take up much of your day

How People from NZ took to the skies in both world wars fought with bravery with many who never returned, either dead or taken prisoners of war to ascertain that future generations live as free nation. Rooms and Rooms filled with pictures and planes used at that time telling of their bravery. Got to b seen to understand what these... More

An interesting museum, with a wide range of artifacts, dioramas. & interactive exhibits. We both liked the 'life of a POW' in Europe rooms - they are working on an exhibit detailing the experiences of POWs in the Pacific. My husband loved being able to sit in a bombers gun turret. For those who have visited the Australian War Memorial... More

Awesome place to visit, whether it be with friends, family, or even a date! I came here on a date and we had a great time - for free! It was very eye opening to read the stories of our NZ war heroes. It was also a lot of fun climbing into the cockpit of an old plane! I loved... More

New Zealand has a great love for aviation history, and the Air Force Museum is a fantastic documentation of the military aspects. Entry is free, everything is well labelled and the free 'behind the scenes' tour only adds to the experience. Add a nice cafe and you have a great place to spend a few hours.

A wonderful collection of antique and modern planes. The highlight our visit was the guided tour by a museum volunteer. A very human touch was added to the displays via the life sized cut outs of historical and contemporary New Zealand air force and armed services personnel, telling their stories and the period of history in which they served,

We have been to the museum and the cafe inside many times and have enjoyed every visit. The museum itself has so much to offer. The number of planes and information available is really good. We always have a coffee and cake and the food and service has always been good.
