Picked up this free tour at the information center. Simon was our guide for a 2 hour walking tour of Christchurch. He did a really good job with a bit of background first about the settlers, areas of the city, impact of the earthquakes and the devastation. He was however, very good at putting this disaster into a positive framework discussing how the people pulled together, the planning of the rebuilding with more open park and recreation areas. He showed us the 2 sights where those who lost their lives are remembered. We viewed the war memorial, the Avon, the botanical gardens and the museums as well as pointing out good places to eat and drink. He had a very nice manner.

Kia ora and thanks for your review. We definitely try to spread a positive perspective of how our city is finding it's new personality and culture. We have been through much devastation but the future is looking bright! Glad you enjoyed the tour. Safe travels. Cheers, Si

We took the free walking tour on our first morning in New Zealand/Christchurch and found it very useful as an introduction to the culture and background of NZ. Simon was very knowledgeable about the city and how it is recovering from the recent (2010/11) earthquakes. All in all a very worthwhile experience!

Simon was an excellent guide, taking us around the centre city and explaining sites of significance. He answered questions willingly and gave us a mountain of information, while moving at an easy walking pace through the streets and parks. Simon speaks clearly with good articulation and is quite knowledgeable, having a personal long history and genuine connection with this city. It was a couple of hours really well spent, and we felt very happy giving him a generous monetary gift for his time.

I signed up on Simon`s free walking tour hoping to get a feel for Christchurch before and after the earthquake. Simon was tremendous, a comprehensive tour of the city at a good pace covering recent and past history. Not too much detail but sufficient. Really worth it.
