There's a palpably stunned silence after the safety brief. Even the helicopter briefing in Fox Glacier wasn't so, so- it's hard to find the exact word. "Now the ride is very noisy and this is a camera without audio, I can't hear you if you are screaming so wave your hands frantically and I'll stop". We're sharing the back with... More

Don't miss the chance to visit this centre which has so much to offer for young and old alike. Highly educational buts lots of fun as well such as the 4D experience. Friendly helpful staff and good cafe.

We dropped in to the centre for a couple of hours prior to flying to Queenstown. It's literally 5 mins down the road from the airport. North particularly cheap but the kids enjoyed patting the huskies, the Hagglund ride, the 4D movies and snow storm. The penguins were all sleeping in their nests when we went. You can probably see... Held the interest of three generations including Grandad. Something for all generations. The penguins, the storm room, the tractors all kept our attention. Perhaps the only negative thing was that the guy outside with the Husky dogs seemed very nervous and uptight about our interaction with the dogs. He kept shouting at us not to pat the dogs on the... Interactive and fun, the IAC is ideal for kids from about 10 up. There's an antarctic storm with serious wind and snow, a 3D movie with simulation (they call it 4D), penguins, many fascinating displays, and a fantastic ride in a Hagglund Arctic vehicle. Allow a few hours, we did two hours and it wasn't long enough to see and... More

I took my granddaughter to the Antarctic Centre on Sunday and I was really disappointed. There is some very good educational information but we really wanted to see the penguins playing in the pool. The took my money which I thought was quite expensive and never mentioned the penguins weren't on display.

This venue went out of its way to provide the antarctic experience by giving you the cold experience, the wind and water experience and the travelling on the ice vehicles. Great. Add to this the static displays and the penguins. A worthwhile visit.

We had been told this was good for adults and there is a lot of information here, but it tends to be a little superficial and disjointed. the fibreglass ice flows and fake snow weren't a turn-on for us. The simulated storm, penguin feeding, the ride in an Antarctic transport and the 4d theatre way have made it worth the... More

A small piece of the great white south can be found in the bustling airport district of Christchurch. An easy walk from the airport terminal and accessible by free shuttle from Christchurch city, the IAC has been set up in the vicinity of the NZ and USA Antarctic program bases of operations. The centre offers a variety of static and... More

Very enjoyable and easily accessible - I took the shuttle ride from outside the Museum in the CBD. The models were great and the displays very informative. sadly the timing of the shuttles meant I had to miss the penguin feeding but thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the display. Delightful shop and café as well - especially as there was... More
