A Library For All
Apr 2021
My friend and I fell in love with this library. We are both teachers and book lovers so imagine our excitement when we visited here. We were even given an extensive history of the library by some very friendly librarians. Definitely a place to take the kids. Their area was amazing and the Hogwarts inspired staircase pure magic. There is something for all ages in this very modern place. Don't miss out!

Great central library. The building is packed with technology. Definitely a good investment of taxpayer's money.

Turanga is the state of the Art Library in Cathedral Square in the heart of the City Centre which has architectural interest with significant cultural relevance.

A fitting replacement.

Folks have talked about this amazing space since its opening and we can understand why. A beautiful asset for the city with plenty of open spaces and tranquil colour scheme. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and a credit to the institution.

Great space
Aug 2020
A great space and pleasure to be in.
Welcoming and peaceful (as you'd expect a library to be).
They have created an iconic building and space for the city of Christchurch for now and well into the future.

Phoenix from the earthquake rubble

Christchurch used to have a wonderful, if old-fashioned children's library. This new building is testament to what imaginative structures and spaces can be created when you have to start afresh. Think Hogwarts stair cases, balcony gardens and lots of nooks and crannies where you can hide away and read.

The cafe downstairs does a great hot chocolate which you'll need if it's as cold and rainy outside as it was on our 'summer' visit.

Wow! More please

What a terrific surprise recommended to us by one of the market place dinner vendors. I would not have put that I should go visit a library while on holiday- this is an exception! We could have spent hours here, hats off to the people of Christchurch for the vision to put together such a great space. We had to explore top to bottom and found such wonderful spaces everywhere. The learning environment this creates for young people will have a generational impact. Another great bonus is the views of the Cathedral Square- here is where you want to take your photos vs through all the construction gates. How do we get one of these where we live? Staff were great at answering our very touristy questions and sharing there amazing work space with us. I'd actually put this on my "Must see" list for Christchurch.

Up-to-date & welcoming

Forget gloomy libraries of the past where you had to be quiet. Turanga is full of life. It has 2 cafes; plenty of bean bags, floor to ceiling windows with views in every direction, children's play areas (more LEGO than your kid could imagine) and bookable private rooms for almost any purpose.

Beware the green-eyed monster
Jan 2020
If you are from Wellington like us, where our central library is closed indefinitely for earthquake strengthening, then this glorious building is likely to turn you green with envy. Bright and spacious with enormous opportunities, particularly for children, it is clearly a joy to work in and to use. If you go up to the top floor by elevator you can both see the view over the square (and contrast and compare this building with the cathedral!) and walk down the elegant staircases back to the ground. What a joy this building is.
