Visited on Tuesday 22nd May. Cathedral Square is the most visited part of Christchurch and still bears the scars of the earthquake. I hope to return one day to see Cathedral Square restored to its former glory.

One of the most visited spots in Christchurch is Cathedral Square, where stands a giant aluminum monument called The Chalice representing 42 native kiwi plants. The Cathedral was partially destroyed by the earthquake of magnitude 7, but the square is full of history and cultures,...More

Christchurch is being rebuilt, but except the cathedral. It is possible to see the broken building today. There is a food market on the weekend too.

It is surprising that after 7 years there are so many buildings that are just left standing vacant in central Christchurch after being totally or partially destroyed by the earthquake. Many haven’t been taken down, replaced, or repaired. It really looks like a war zone....More

Cathedral Square was the busy core of Christchurch. It still bears the scar of the 2011 earthquake. Although no longer full of pedestrians or traffic, the square is the place to see the impact of the disaster.

Christchurch is our home town, but we don't go into the centre of town very often. This week we went to take a look at the photos from the Photographer of the Year Competition. The display of them finishes today, 26 November, but I believe...More

The square epitomises much of Christchurch as there is still evidence of the destruction caused by the earthquake especially with the cathedral and also the fact that so much rebuilding is going on.

Although the Christ Church Cathedral is a sad sight, the square around it is coming back to life. The Streets Festival that the local council put on in October 2017 showed how people would go into the CBD, if there was something going on. There...More
