Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Located next to the Christchurch Cathedral, the Chalice Sculpture is a very tall (18m) and impressive piece of artwork. It would be striking at night with the floodlight that sits in the base of the cone.

An interesting sculpture adjacent to the Cathedral reconstruction. Lost some of its appeal by being surrounded by scaffolding and ruins.

Certainly a symbol of downtown, rather bizarre looking, looks like a ice cream cone.
I think the monument to the earthquake victims made up of rock and stone nearby has much more meaning.

The Chalice Sculpture is located right in the city center and it is a modern piece of art to celebrate the new milennium and the 150th anniversary of the city.

Nice sculpture, something to look at when travelling through the square. Good artistic touch right in the centre of the city. No need for a special trip as you'll come across it if in the city.

This sculpture was commissioned to be built to celebrate 150 yrs of the founding of Christchurch.
It also shows leaves of the plants that used to grow in the region.
It shows this just under the base of the statue with the leaves in the granite.
It looks good at night lit up.
Its hard to miss when you go the square to look at the cathedral.

We are all things lovers of monuments /statues/sculptures as they tell you so much about a place and its people. This one was constructed for the turn of the century, a light beacon so to speak, see through so you can see the light, native leaves make up the intrcate patterns, quite nice, once you understand what it is all about.

As a regular visitor to Christchurch, I now find this statue a somewhat comforting landmark, being one of the few things downtown that remained largely unaffected by the earthquakes. While nothing spectacular to go out of your way for, it's worth a pause to check out during a stroll through downtown Christchurch. It looks particularly cool when lit up of an evening.

Walked straight passed it as it looks a lot better at night time, compared to daylight. You look at it, but don't make it a focus for your trip.
