We booked with Ben for 2 days guiding in early February. Sadly the weather on the west coast was awful, actually worse than awful and Ben sent me an email suggesting 3 options. Try and fish, fish half day or cancel. My wife's skill level wouldn't cope and while mine are pretty good, the thought of fighting the wind and rain for 8 hours didn't seem like a good idea. So we opted for a cancellation.
For Ben to do that was exceptional and I'm only sorry that we didn't meet this trip. Hopefully we will be able to get back and book with Ben again.
The full refund hit our account almost immediately and frankly Ben's generosity and honesty should give anyone wanting to fish with him, utmost confidence about the service you'll get.
Can't recommend Ben highly enough

Ben took me to some pretty remote rivers where we had the whole river to ourselves. He is fantastic at sighting fish... He saw so many more fish than I did... The rivers were beautiful and Ben was an excellent guide. I would highly recommend him.

I Booked Ben Haywood for a Day Trip Early January 2018 to try my hand at Catching Rainbow Trout being an experienced angler in North Queensland Catching Barramundi was not worthy of the expertise needed to jag a Rainbow, The Ability to Site Cast to these fish in Crystal Clear Mountain waters was so exciting, to watch them Strike.... !!! Doesn't get much better than this Trust me... I had more than 15 Chances to get them to take I hooked more than 10 which made for excitement plus day in a place God couldn't ask for better place to be, with not a single sole for miles in site besides me and my Guide Ben the odd Rabbit and Deer Roaming Wild across the Mountain sides, Ben put me on more trout than I could handle, Very much will be back for more in such a magnificent place....Cheers Ben Haywood Very Privileged Experience with someone who lives to share his passion with others. 5 Star Service..

I booked Ben for a day of guided fishing in December 2017.

What a sensational day! Ben was super easy to deal with and very responsive with his communications in leading up to the trip.

On the day Ben was at the designated meeting spot early and we headed out.

We had a delightful day chatting to Ben, him sighting fish and us attempting to catch them. Landed 5 for the day which was great. Rainbows in the 3-4.5lbs range.

I have fished with guides in New Zealand, Australia, Montana and Alaska and the day spent with Ben was right up there as one of the top 5. Why? Awesome scenery, great guiding skills, and Ben is a relaxed, calm and easy to get a long with sort of bloke which just makes the day a whole lot more fun and enjoyable!

In fact we has such a good time we tried to book Ben for 2 more days but unfortunately he had pre-existing books. Damn! Lesson learnt though - book early!

I couldnt recommend Ben highly enough! Thanks!

I had three amazing fishing days with Ben. We were in three very different rivers, all with crystal clear waters, on the east and west coasts. The scenery is stunning. Ben offered all his unparalleled experience to find the trout, the strategy for approach, the techniques of fly casting, capture and safe and healthy return of the fish to the river. His dedication to fly fishing, experience, teaching, patience and gentle attention resulted in a fantastic trip. All this was complemented by visits to geological sites of interest in Castle Hill and Flock Hill. On the last day we fished in a river situated on the Alpine fault and then we visited a typical braided river. I highly recommend this fishing experience with Ben Haywood, from Braided Rivers, to everyone who ventures into New Zealand.

My wife and I spent the day fly fishing with Ben Haywood near Arthur's Pass in December 2017 while on a short camping vacation. Ben picked us up early from our campground, drove us a short distance to the river where we would fish, and outfitted us with all of the gear we would need for the day (waders, boots, rods, sunglasses, food, water, etc...). We had told him that we were willing to do a bit of hiking to get to a more remote stretch of water and he didn't disappoint -- we walked for about 30 minutes through a foggy canyon before coming out onto a beautiful clear-water river. My wife was just there to tag along, but Ben had brought all of the gear that she needed to spend a comfortable day reading, taking photos, and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

We started the day walking upriver looking for rainbow trout, and within a few minutes Ben had found a big one holding near the bank. He got me set up with a dry fly rig, and within a few minutes I had a 4.5 pound rainbow on the line. I fought it for a few minutes, with Ben running along next to me and giving me pointers (this was by far the biggest fish I'd ever caught on a fly rod). We landed the fish a little ways downriver and snapped a few photos before sending it on its way.

We spent the rest of the day hiking up and down a stunning river, with Ben spotting fish, switching out flies, and doing his best to get as many fish in the net as possible. We ended up landing 6 fish, all over 2.5 pounds, with a few more hooked and lost. It was one of the best days of fishing I've ever had, and definitely a highlight of my trip to New Zealand.

I would highly recommend Ben to anyone looking to spend a wonderful day on the water catching beautiful (and big) fish in a wonderful location. Ben was tireless in his search for fish, always willing to tie on a new fly or change strategies, and was a great companion for the day. His wife also packs a great shore lunch, which was welcome after a morning of fighting big trout. If I'm lucky enough to make it back to New Zealand, I'll be be sure to spend another day on the water with Ben.
