Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities had an exhibit on life in ancient times. Among the highlights are a Roman floor mosaic from Syria in the 5th-6th century CE. The dog in the mosaic acts like a protector. The Ayulian red-figure volute-krater from 330-320 BCE depicts a youthful warrior. It was designed to be a grave marker or to hold the ashes of the deceased. It's a small museum with many interesting objects.

We went for an interesting exhibition on the way the classical greeks and romans would eat. Especially nice how it is presented for kids.

Yes Yes I know - I;ve already had a crack at this one. Bur here I am again because the exhibition has changed and it just fascinating. This year, it is called Fantastic Feasts and is about dining and food in the ancient world. On display, as always, are relevant pieces carefully curated into an exhibition, from the Logie collection. This is a bequest held by the Classics Department of the University of Canterbury. The museum provides a wonderful opportunity to see these amazing pieces up close. The commentaries are fun and informative and there are interactive exhibits and stations for kids. It's just one room, so very small and entry is by donation. The museum is located in the old Chemistry Building in the South Quad of the Arts Centre. So it's easy to make this a part of your Arts Centre visit for icecream, lunch, shopping and sightseeing. It is also extremely close to the Botanic Gardens and the Art Gallery and Canterbury Museum. So it can be part of a marvellous sightseeing day in the central city.

I didn't even know of the existence of this little museum which houses exhibits from the Logie Collection held by the University of Canterbury. It just takes up one room in the Old Chemistry Building at the Arts Centre but is really worth visiting as the classical exhibits are first class and quite exciting.

The host on duty this morning was pleasant and well versed in her field and there is a free activity station or visiting children.

AND - one final attraction always very dear to my heart when travelling - a very salubrious public toilet just across the hallway.

I parked in the free car park off Armagh St in the Botanical Gardens and walked through. It takes minutes and is a very pretty walk.

Entrance is by koha or donation and you can even donate by eftpos so there's no dodging it!

This recently opened museum in the Arts Centre highlights antiquities that belong to Canterbury University. The exhibit Beyond the Grave: Death in Ancient Times featured many objects that showed how the ancient Greeks and Romans viewed death. The museum is free and consists of one room, but there is quite a bit to see in that one room. It is definitely worth a visit.

Although the museum is small (only one room), it does a really good job with laying the collection out and with signage and explanations and has some very attractive objects. When we went, the exhibition was geared towards children, with activities set up for them (though it was also interesting for adults). The lady on duty told us that the exhibitions change a few times a year to allow different items in the collection to be displayed and to bring out different themes. The contextualisation of the objects was really well done, and they are displayed very nicely and well lit. The museum is free to visit, and is a good activity if you have a bit of spare time in the city centre.

After many years of relative isolation on the campus of Canterbury University, it is very exciting to see the Logie Collection of Egyptian antiquities find a new home in the recently restored Arts Centre right in the centre of Christchurch, opposite the Canterbury Museum. While small, the collection is well displayed and provides an interesting introduction to Egyptian artefacts.
